We really enjoyed our late lunch here, an unexpected gem at the local marina. We were impressed with the gulf island shrimp -... terrific batter, seasoning and sauce. Our key lime pie was also very good (I prefer mine to be more tart) but an excellentdessert. Our food took a little bit longer than expected, but our waiter was very attentive and obviously working hard withmultiple tables. The interior space is also decorated beautifully and feels very modern. We would love to come back next timewe?re in town. Read more

We ate here for dinner. We made a reservation, which was promptly accommodated. For starters, we ordered the coconut shrimp... and the guacamole. You make the guacamole yourself, which is fun. The shrimp were very tasty with a nice spice. I ordered thePlaya Old Fashioned, which had some interesting flavors as far as old fashioneds go. For entrees, we enjoyed the taco bowl, island shrimp, ceviche, and red fish. The red fish was cooked absolutely perfectly. The island shrimp and taco bowl wereenjoyed also. The ceviche was prepared differently than expected, and was ok. The service was excellent; our waitress wasfriendly and answered our questions about the menu. The manager was also walking the floor to ensure each table?s experiencewas good. The ambience was low key wherein the focus was on the nice views of the bay. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed. The food, service, and view at Playa at Sportsman Marina are quite nice. The downstairs dining, indoors or on the deck by the... bay, is comfortable, clean, and inviting. The second floor, also with an open-air deck, has great views of the Gulf, a privatebar, and an indoor lounge. It's almost always a great start when you find a place where their ingredients are sourced freshfrom the Gulf Coast and that's what they do here and it shows. They have a pleasantly eclectic number of tasty treats like theCuban, fresh salads like avocado tomato, jerk shrimp, tuna poke bowl, tacos, steaks, burgers, ribs, and more with some localfaves too. Like the Island Gulf shrimp, mahi sandwich, shrimp & grits, crab toast, and coconut shrimp. I especially enjoyed mybrunch selection this weekend, the Carnita Breakfast. It's big chunks of smoky and well-seasoned pork, over a bed of creamysweet corn grits, really delicious fresh chimichurri (almost as good as mine :-) with eggs over and fire-grilled tortillas, nice. I even started my meal with a street corn app, it was also well done. My honey said her mahi-mahi was one of the bestshe's ever had and with our delightful server, Sarah, and the lovely view, it was a most enjoyable dining experience. Addedfeatures: They do accept reservations, they do "hook and cook" which prepares your own fresh-caught seafood, the entirerestaurant is available for private parties of up to 300, plus they also do catering. The same folks that own Playa also run thefine restaurants, Fisher's Upstairs & Fisher's Dockside. Bottom line: Far enough away from the beach to not cater to mostlytourists and more than good enough to make it a locals' favorite. Good, food, service, atmosphere, and view, it's the real dealfor coastal dining. Highly recommended!!!!! Read more

We were so excited to try out Playa and we were welcome by a beautiful interior and friendly staff. However, the star of the... sow, the food, was disappointing on every front. Everything was bland and lacked seasoning, portions were small and prices werehigh. The make your own guacamole was good, but I chalk that up to my own experience making it at home. Drinks were good butsmall. Despite the beautiful view from our waterside table, we won?t be back. Read more

Definitely try the shrimp tacos and the bread pudding with peanut butter mousse!Oh so yummy! Definitely recommend! Read more

We loved this place. They take reservations via open table. The food was amazing and the service was top notch! Highly... recommend Anson. We ordered the crab toast, coconut shrimp, and coconut grouper! Would order all three again especially thecoconut shrimp! Round 2 The food was absolutely terrific. We had the hook and cook and the chef prepared my red snapper, trigger fish, and vermilion snapper to perfection. Chef Rachel brought out the food and talked with us for a bit. Thepresentation was just gorgeous! The blackened was my favorite but the fried was also very delicious. Lou was our server and hedid a fabulous job. I also ordered the oysters for an appetizer and they were very good. Playa never disappoints! Alwaysamazing!! ???? Read more
