The Common Stove - Located up in Orillia, this restaurant is known for it's wood-fired grill and locally sourced ingredients.... Took the fam up for a few days so you know I had to hit it up. Please note that the menu changes, but we started with bonemarrow and fire-roast scallops. For the mains, we copped the half-chicken, halibut and pig's head pasta. For our sides weenjoyed the heirloom carrots and Yukon gold fries. A few items could have used a touch more seasoning, but all-in-all it was atasty meal. The kids ate a little of everything with the halibut being their fav. The wifey and I both liked the pasta, followedby the scallops and then the carrots. Service was on point so no complaints there. Pricey meal, but hey, I guess that'severything nowadays. I'd rank this meal a 7.1. #TomEatsYummyFoodBecauseWhyNot Read more

First time at TCS last night and I was very impressed. I happen to be a chef so believe me when I say that the skill involved... in the food is stellar. We started with a cocktail, the Edmund Fitzgerald, and the bartender did me a solid with a gingeralebitters like I like. Starters were the burrata with roast grapes and miso, and the bone marrow with parsley, shallot, capersand sour dough bread. Both were great but the burrata dish was the best burrata I've had (not the cheese itself, theaccompaniments, cheese is cheese). The miso was the best thing I've put in my mouth in a long while. And the bite, soaked inthe great olive oil on the plate was devine. The chef recommended no bread with the dish and they were correct. A perfectbite. For mains we had the ribe eye with chimmichuri, and the roast turnip with lentils, curry sauce and herbs. Both werestellar but I must say that the turnip won out for us just for the depth of flavours. If you are a steak lover you will lovethe steaks for sure. Dry aged and prepared very well. Our sides were the fries with aoli, and the common salad (Boston, shallot, and vinaigrette). The fries were great and the aoli tasted authentic. The salad was perfect in its simplicity and Iwouldn't change an iota. For dessert we had the roast pineapple and almond Panna cotta. The flavors of the were amazing but ithadn't set much at all. So I couldn't do much more than taste it but my wife didn't seem to care and devoured it. I would comeback just for the miso. Can't wait to return to try new dishes! Read more

Highly recommended. Went for brunch, really enjoyed ourselves. Food menu is a bit different than traditional breakfast/brunch... menus, but take the leap of faith and trust that every dish is well thought out and delicious. Restaurant is beautifullydesigned and furnished, really cozy luxury feel to it. Service was also perfect, couldn’t ask for more. Freshly squeezedorange juice for the Mimosa too! Read more

Great spacious restaurant with good food. We got the steak tartare with chips, which tasted fresh. The bone marrow dish was... quite unique and was garnished with cilantro. The steak and brussel sprouts and s’mores dessert was nice as well. Read more

This is an outstanding restaurant. Great vibe in the dining room with very genuinely friendly service. The food was exceptional.... Highly recommend sitting at the chef's counter to see the action in the kitchen and also enjoy the toasty fire from the woodburning grill. Standout items for us were the stuffed zucchini blossoms, heirloom carrots with a zesty zhug, crunchy almonds, and sweet chewy dates (what a combination!) and the dry aged rib eye steak - seasoned only with salt to let the quality of themeat shine through - brilliant! Simply delicious unpretentious food. Congratulations to the chef and team for creating somethingspecial. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. Read more

Great Sunday Roast! Two minor problems were substituting fries instead of roast potatoes. The Yorkshire Pudding batter didn’t... rise. The prime rib was delicious, the gravy was more of an au jus. The service was excellent! Read more
