Friendly service, very generous portions. Over $10 only because I was a ????... They have daily specials under $10, even on... Saturday. My first visit, I got a Cheese Rite and a chili dog. The Cheese Rite meat was a little more coarse and drier/lessgreasy than what I'm used to, but still quite good. You'll definitely need the spoon they serve with it. The chili dog... OMG!At first I thought $5-ish was a little steep, but not for this all-beef behemoth! The cashier didn't know, but my guess is thefrank was 1/3 lb if not north of that, about 8" x 1¼". If you wish to tip the person who brings the order to your table orbuses it, bring some cash to leave... you won't get a chance to add a tip on the charge slip. They deserve it! Subway is a very busy place (the only one now in Oskaloosa). Fairly quick service. Servers are polite & answer questions quickly... but efficiently. The food is good. The restaurant is clean. We got there a little late. So when they closed at 9pm the lightsover the tables were turned off to let new customers know. We were made to feel welcome to stay, to finish our meal. When newcustomers tried to come in (about a dozen)they were welcomed but told they are closed. When we got outside &before we could pullout there were another dozen customers pulling in. We let several know they were closed. Everyone was nice, inside & out, noplacing blame or getting mad. Read more
This place is fantastic. Maid-Rite is a local cult classic, and this is the place to get the original thing. For those who don't... know, a "Maid-Rite" is a loose meat hamburger sandwich on a bun served at a restaurant with the same name. That's it, just loosehamburger. The restaurant infuses the meat with a soft onion-y taste that reminds me of White Castle sliders, and serve it withyour choice of toppings. I've been here a million times, and the food always tastes freshly made and consistently wellpresented. You can get homestyle or crinkle fries in the basket meal and a drink. The Maid-Rite is the restaurant's signaturedish, but they also have a multitude of other delights to try, including another Iowa cult classic - the breaded porktenderloin. Along with Happy Joe's Taco Pizza, the Maid-Rite is always something I bring out of state visitors to experience. Read more
Maid-Rite had awesome food was kinda confused though when I asked for waffle fries and she said we never had waffle fries
