Really nice traditional foods with a slight twist. I would have loved to had more attentive servers, specially when our group... was ordering food as we ate in a traditional bar style. I would love to see a larger bar selection. The eel is a must at thisplace. Note that it was hard to find seats for many coming in for when you decide to visit this restaurant. Read more
Wow...what a find in Ottawa. So first off there's tons of street parking around which is always a plus!! The service was super... quick and super friendly!! Now to the good stuff.....the food was AWESOME. Everything was so fresh and full of flavour. Ourfavorites were the Takowasa, Spicy Cod Roe Udon, Grilled Mackerel and the Kakuni Don (grilled pork belly on rice...sooo tender).Also tried the One Punch Salmon Burrito which was also super good and creative. First, write the reason for the summary at the top: the reason for giving one star is that the food is not fresh, causing... vomiting and diarrhea My boyfriend and I ordered six dishes at Izakaya Shingen yesterday which included raw salmon. But I don'teat raw food, so my boyfriend eats all the salmon. After two hours, his stomach began to feel uncomfortable, and then there wasvomiting and diarrhea. But I didn't experience any physical discomfort. We stayed together all day and ate the same everythingexcept the plate of raw salmon. We barely slept the whole night, going to the toilet almost every thirty minutes to vomit. Justwanted more people to see this. Avoid the same encounters with us. Food was good but found the portions extremely small and not filling. The chairs we were given were so uncomfortable we decided... to change restaurants. Everything was tasty and we have been in Japanese bar style restaurants but this was too uncomfortablechairs and portion way too small for the price. Sake options were nice but would come here purely for a quick drink. Decor wasnice. Staff didn't interact much with us. Others seemed to be enjoying which was a nice ambiance! Read more
Very friendly staff. The decoration of the restaurant gives a real Izakaya atmosphere like in Japan. Once the order was placed,... the dishes were served in a short time. Because of COVID, the menu options were limited to a few choices, but everything weordered was delicious. Hopefully we will be able to return when the menu will offer all the usual options. Read more
What a jem for authentic Japanese cuisine!! Ever since I've been back from Japan I haven't seen such an authentic menu. Haven't... tasted nabe the japanese hot pot in years and it was spot on, exactly how it should be, full of flavour and color. Also had thekorokke which was made with sweet potatoes, delicious. My husband had the chicken don which was tasty maybe lacking some sauceon the side or something. He had the karaage which was delicious but maybe a tad undercooked. Besides that the price was reallygood for rhe quality we paid 60 something for all of this no drinks. The staff was super nice and fast. The ambiance is cozy. Iwould maybe update it a bit, it was kind of underwhelming. Either more modern or more traditional. Read more
