Nice ambience with terrible food. The owner sure knows how to attract potential customers with fine presented food. Too bad the... gilt of delicate Japanese food is soon off after the first bite. Deep frying the Tonkatsu by pieces makes the sectioned partsdried as hell. The proper and normal Tonkatsu should at least appear pink inside. Udon’s pork is dried and tough but the soupis okay. One star for the udon noodles and one star for the waiter. Read more

Super lowkey place with a high end vibe and reasonable prices. Food presentation was on point, and our server was awesome and... really friendly. She was super patient with all of our questions as well. I think offering mixed drinks would definitelyheighten the experience, but I understand how it would complicate their staffing since they’re just a small business, wheremixing drinks would just be an added responsibility for the servers. While shopping around on Lake Avenue, you often find yourself feeling hungry. I wanted to try something new, and decided to see... what was around. Then I remembered a cute little Japanese restaurant recently opened up and I have been wanting to try them fora while. We arrived just in time, and got a seat right away. They offer Gozen Meals, bowls, and curry! We decided to treatourselves and each ordered a delicious Gozen meal set. I was craving sukiyaki, so that had my heart. My husband ordered theribeye steak with steak sauce. I also ordered a bowl of salmon because it looked amazing, and I love salmon. The meal wasbeautiful. Everything was plated perfectly, and the colors made the food look vibrant and fun. Not only did my eyes eat, but theflavor was just as delicious. The sukiyaki beef was perfectly sweet, and the rice was so soft and fluffy. I loved mixing the egginto my sukiyaki, giving it an extra tasty flavor. The salad was also very fresh, and the seasonal veggies helped create abalanced meal. The salmon bowl was also very delicious. The salmon was soft and juicy, and the rice mixed with the ikura gaveit a nice salty flavor. I loved adding the wasabi (which also looked like it was made in house!) to my salmon for a littlekick! I also tried the seasonal dessert, which was a deliciously light panna cotta topped with fruit. The pudding was very softand went well with the berries. Loved my meal here at Gozen Shun, not only was it visually appealing, but it also tastedphenomenal! Can’t wait to come back and try some of their other meals. Read more

Went there for lunch last weekend. REALLY DISAPPOINTED that the side dishes I got was flavorless boring water boiled vegetable,... beans and cauliflower. I thought it should always be something more flavorful like kinpira, tsukudani mushrooms or special yasaior dashi tofu. At least those were what I got several months ago and seen on reviews and photos. This is especiallydisappointing since that we noticed a significant price raise but quality drop at the same time. (for the photo, I tried some ofeach before I took the photo) Read more

I would say given how high the other Google Reviews were, Gozen Shun was quite a bit of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong,... the interior was crisp and modern with a modern barn feel with a Japanese twist. Food was decent but more importantly visuallywell decorated. And... I guess that's where good things end. Let's start with the tonkatsu. Tough meat like cardboard. This wassupposed to have a fluffy and crisp coat with soft innards. Completely opposite. Now I went for this chef's special chirashibowl with supposed kobe beef and uni, priced at $49. Again, let me repeat - a rice bowl price at $49. Ok, so I'm now expectingwagyu-style cuts over a warm rice with delightful and light sauce. What comes out is a lump of cold sushi rice, with cold beefcuts, tough like cardboard, and then some uni. Yes, uni was nice but how do you mess up fresh uni? Again, you can see in mypicture that it was decorated beautifully. But what a massive disappointment. Somehow the chef seems to be influenced more byvisual magazine shots rather than having a balanced taste. Expensive, cold, untasteful. Yes, great visuals, indoors and on theplate. Won't be returning. I went here twice & tried different dishes, all were really good! I had the ribeye steak gozen during one visit & sukiyaki beef... gozen on my second visit. All the sides that came with it were really good & compliments the main dish. I also had a bite of thepork loin cutlet curry that my sister ordered & im not big on curry at all, but this tastes like the curry i had in Japan so irecommend! Read more
