We wanted to go to the Armory on Saturday night but the wait was so long. We ended up at the Barge. Immediately after being... seated it was abundantly obvious why there was no wait and many empty tables. We were a party of 8. We were not escorted to atable, instead we were directed with the wave of arm and point of a finger to our table. Our server was amazing but not so muchto excuse the extremely rude owner, the freezing dining area, the terrible food and the lack of vegetables served with ourdinner( 1 piece Of carrot and a leaf of spinach)Again, aside from our server who went over and beyond to satisfy us - the restwas pretty terrible. Not only will we never go back we will continue to tell everyone we know how terrible the food andexperience was. Read more

I gave it a 3, but it's really more of a 2-2.5. It's still stuck in the '70's. As soon as you walk in, you're hit with an... odor- it smells like urine, BUT, in reality, I think it's just the smell of the carpet that adorns the dining room. Definitelytime to tear that up, and go with wood or LVT. The glasses and silverware were very dirty when we arrived at our table. Ourserver was very polite and attentive. She gave us all the time we needed- we were a large party, and some ran late. At onepoint, however, the person bringing food out didn't bother to tell her, and our food sat there. We also had to get up and getour own coffee. The food was hit and miss. The scallop wrapped in bacon appetizer was good, but the baked clams had far toomuch breading, and what seemed like an overpowering lemon taste. The fried calamari was extremely greasy, and the breadingdidn't stay on. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, which ranged from surf & turf(very good, but accompanied by a useless lobstershell garnish), to perfectly done scallops, and a delicious stuffed lobster tail. The house made creme brulee and rice puddingwere very good. Their white sangria was overly sweet, strong, and you tasted more booze than wine and fruit. It looked likeorange juice. We also noticed that most of the people coming in to eat were of the 65 & older variety, who are probably thesame people who frequented The Barge when it opened. Make no mistake- this place has 4-5 star potential. I'd go out on a limband say that during a time, it was a 4-5 star restaurant. My parents liked the place for a reason. But they need to start withgetting rid of the carpeting, cleaning the dishes and updating the place. Read more

Food awful and over priced. Please never order the crab cakes or mashed potatoes. Scallops have no seasoning. Not sure how this... places gets high marks. Even my Hennessey drink didn't taste like the real thing. nice atmosphere but that's about it. Findanother restaurant Read more

Tried to make reservation on line and it would not accept for 2 people. We showed up at restaurant at 645 and Hostess stated... they were booked and do not accept on line reservations. She was gracious enough to find us a table and my husband and Ienjoyed a great meal. Thank you Read more

Well. This is a pretty popular restaurant but the food is just okay. It's not bad but it's nothing that is going to knock your... socks off. I've been here a few times over the years. The last time I went, I ordered a seafood kabob which was said to comewith lobster. There was no lobster in it unless you consider little pieces of it that look like the tiniest shrimp you've everseen, lobster. It was not seasoned at all. It was just okay. The price point is reasonable. The restaurant has a beautiful view.I have also been here for a baby shower and they did a nice job but again, food is just okay. 3 stars for me. Read more

I'm so glad I decided to take a ride and try the Barge Restaurant and Banquet Faculity. Its located across from the Arthur Kill... Waterways in Perth Amboy. There is a patio and indoor seating. I chose indoor seating because they were construction crewsworking at the time of my visit. The Barge restaurant has been around since 1925.It’s mostly seafood but they do have a niceselection of Soups, salads, burgers, wraps, steak, pasta and chicken. My review is based on lunch only. I chose for my entreethe Broiled Scallops. I was surprised I receive 13 scallops for a lunch entree. Came with a house salad, and a choice of aside.I choose a baked potato. My scallops were delicious and perfectly cooked. My salad was crisp and a nice size. My friendordered their Lobster Salad Wrap. She had a choice of sides and chose their potato salad. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal. Thebarge offers an extensive list of desserts, So many that they couldn’t list all of them on their menu. I had to scan the reston to my iphone. for dessert I chose their Chambord Parfait, With vanilla ice cream layered Chambord and fresh whippedcream. This is where willpower comes in and I only had a couple of scoops it was that good. Second dessert I chose was theirCrème Brûlée.It too was very good with a very creamy custard interior, and a hard shell on the exterior. It was just waitingto be crack with my spoon. Whipped cream was piped on the side of the dessert. The interior of the Barge is your typicalnautical theme, with blue walls and nautical wallpaper as you walk in.There are white linens on all tables. The tables aredistanced apart. The staff was very nice and friendly. They did their best to accommodate us at the time. The service was a bitslow, so I’m giving them four stars. I think they needed more waiters. This restaurant has two dining rooms which are spreadout. The Barge restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Next time I come I'd like to sit outside on the patio and take in theviews of the Read more
