Wow, what an amazing restaurant, with an even better staff and an even better backstory. Mike, the head chef, took our order and... was very welcoming and patient. The other chefs in the back were hard at work fulfilling orders (I love to see it). The pizzawas good, but the fries, not so much. Note: the food is a bit pricey; you could definitely get 1 pizza, to share amongst 2-3people, depending on your appetite size to save on cost. Read more
We were craving Detroit pizza just as Down North was featured on the Eater channel on YouTube. The pizza looked so good that we... soon found ourselves driving up Ridge avenue to give it a try! We got the Rock the Mic and Uptown Vibes pies and both wereincredible. The crust was crispy on the bottom and soft & buttery on the inside, and the sauce was the perfect combination ofsalty and sweet. Each slice is a hefty portion since it's Detroit style. Drove to my Philadelphia to check out this place hearing what good they do for the community and being Black Owned! Read about... it. First time of course and I’m glad to say I tried it. We were greeted and Mike helped us out. Very helpful and patient isalways a plus for me! I ordered the “Flip Side” pizza and added chicken as well as the fresh cut fries and let me tell you$30 for a pizza is a little steep! Sheesh. I’ll be honest there were too many jalapeños and the beef bacon (was not a fan)could’ve been cooked better. The fries tasted like they were cooked in multi-used old grease which were not at all thegreatest especially given they were straw fries (nope). I absolutely loved and appreciated the homemade bbq sauce and fresh madebread!! The pizza in itself- Freshly made, flavorful and overall pretty good! Pizza was delicious and Detroit style ordered online and the food was ready for pick up on time. Also had the crab fries. One... pizza is enough for two people to share esp if you are also enjoying something else. We almost ordered personals and I’m gladwe didn’t. The pizza tasted great reheated as well Read more
Pizza was definitely amazing! The slices are super thicc and are so filling!! Got the What We Do and No Betta Love pizzas,... delicious! Also got spicy Crab fries (love shoestring fries) and an oreo milkshake! Would highly recommend. Read more
When looking for the best pizza in Philly, this place was mentioned on several websites for having some really great Detroit... style pizza. As someone who loves thick crust pizza, this place did not disappoint! The crust was great, sauce tangy and had theperfect amount of cheese. If you like thick crust pizza, you have to try this place! Not to mention, they hire formallyincarcerated people which is respectable and different from most pizza places in the city unfortunately. Read more
Decided to try Down North for some Friday dinner takeout and was very impressed. While I'd say the prices are a little high,... the mission statement is so great that I'm happy to pay the premium to support not only the mission, but also excellentfood. The pizza was crispy and fresh, with strong tangy sauce and high quality ingredients throughout. The wings were alsogreat and appropriatey baked to deliver a solidly flavorful bite. Haven't had pizza this good in a while. They serve Detroit style pizza with a thicker, burnt crust which we really liked. We got... the I'm a boss which was delicious and heavy with toppings. Pizza literally weighed around 5 lb. We also got Spicy Crab Friesfor appetizers which were amazing and had us craving more. The Apple pie Milkshake was probably one of the best milkshakes Ihave tried. The flavors were perfectly balanced and weren't too sweet. We can't wait to come back and try more from theirmenu.
