I was looking for something quick, affordable, and gluten-free when I decided to try El Merkury. I was hesitant because it was... 5p and they were empty (including no staff in sight) but I liked the ambiance and was focused more on filling my belly thantantalizing my taste buds so went ahead with the touch screen ordering system and soon I noticed some encouraging aromas. I knewI was in for a treat when I opened my box and pulled out a freshly fried plantain chip - still warm and a littlesoft. Everything was delicious - well-balanced flavors and textures. It can be a challenge to fund gluten-free takeout I canafford. I'm grateful for this place and I will be back. Read more

They have an eclectic menu and you can order different combinations of entrees to try multiple things at very reasonable price.... Papusa, beans, queso, rice, plantains, guacamole, churros — you name it. The food here is a delightful! You can order from atouch screen and they bring the food to you. The service is fast. What an amazing find! The nachos were surprisingly refreshing. They blowtorch the nachos a little which gives it that distinct... charred aftertaste which pairs really well with the salsa-guac mashup ( I personally like it chunkier but theirs is quiterunny). The chicken topping was also cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spice and seasoning. I’m lookingforward to trying other things on the menu on our next trip to Philly. Read more

I've been to El Merkury many times so I can attest that the entire menu is delicious. My favorite part of the menu is dessert. I... cannot get enough of their churro & ice cream combo. The churro is light and crispy. The chocolate sauce is beautifully dark andthe chile flakes add the right amount of heat so the dish isn't one note. If you're not a dessert person, I highly recommendthe tostadas. You really can't go wrong here. Read more

My sister and I came here for the churro sundaes, and will absolutely be returning for the delicious / creative street food and... the sky-high, extremely photogenic churros! My salad had a smorgasbord of pickled veggies and marinated jackfruit, and mysister's combo meal was large, tasty, and quite interesting (taquitos and something else, paired with cheesy rice and beans plusguac). Can't wait to try more of the menu! Read more

El Merkury offers authentic Guatemalan street food. Which by the way is delicious! They have a variety of options from pupusas,... saladas, & tacos—to churros???? Their pupusas & tostadas combo are my favorite paired with an horchata con dulce de leche! Ilove the idea of trying two in one, especially if it’s food from my homeland. Dinning in here definitely made me feelnostalgic and took me back to Guatemala. Their walls are decorated with all the slang words you would typically hear being usedin Guatemala. Perfect for aesthetically pleasing foodie pics, which we can’t deny, WE ALL LOVE! Lol if you’re ever in centercity and are looking to try Central American food I absolutely recommend El Merkury! 10/10 Read more
