in my opinion they have the best Chinese food! they never disappoint.
This is one of the few take out places in the area that has gotten BETTER post COVID... We've ordered tons of times over the... past 6 months and each time it has been amazing. LOVE the vegetarian/vegan menu. It's so hard to find places that omit theegg.They have alternatives for nearly everything and they taste amazing. Our favorites are the veggie "chicken" Gen Tso and ChefSpecial BBQ. Delivery is always fast, but not just rushed and thrown together like most. It's quality. Read more
So, I decided that today was a Chinese food day but South Street has gone downhill and the majority of restaurants on the street... have gone out of business or limited the quantity and usually the quality of their food. Golden Empress Garden has decided tobecome a take out only restaurant even though the residents of South Street, around 7th Street, are desperately in need of asitdown Chinese restaurant in this area. Golden Empress doesn't care. They don't have to. They did allow me to sit and eat buteverything was served in take out containers at the table which is a disappointment in itself. I've realized that you can'treally depend on Golden Empress anymore. One month it's great food and the next month it's bad. Maybe they keep changing chefs.Today was a mix of both. The wonton soup was ok , but the broth was basically tasteless. The spring roll was horrible. Verysmall with a gooey meatless center. The hard noodles were stale. The pork fried rice was surprisingly good with a lot of porkand decent amount of flavor, except that it was better the last time I had it a couple of weeks ago. The hunan chickenactually contained a lot of real chicken. Not that rubbery stuff you usually get pretending to be real chicken at many Chineserestaurants these days. The only problem was that it didn't taste like hunan sauce and I had to add salt and plum sauce to makeit taste more authentic. All in all, it was a mediocre experience and I don't think I'll be back for awhile. Especially sinceit's sad to sit at a take out only restaurant. Read more

This place makes some great food! A hidden gem on South St. They have many options for vegetarians and have low salt or low fat... options as well. The food tasted Amazing I ordered the chicken and broccoli with brown Rice and it was superb loaded protein andflavor! 3/24/22 still ordering from this place weekly, they are amazing and always execute the order with quality and quantity! My kids and I order from Golden Empress Garden at least once a week. The food is always fresh and well-prepared, and their... delivery times are really quick. They have a terrific array of dishes, including lots of vegetarian options. Some of my kidslive in other cities and they ask for food from Golden Empress as the first thing they want when they return to Philly. Read more
This restaurant doesn't deserve a 1 star or any, the food was horrible!! I'm a vegetarian so, i'm use to eating veggie meat.... However, this was plain awful!!!The food was cold and smelled rotten.The presentation of the food looked like someone opened acan of whatever and tossed sauce on top. My dog who usually gets excited about our food was disgusted. One bite and my husbandthrew up and we had to toss $66 worth of food in the trash. I would never order from this place again.
