Went to dinner with about 6 coworkers and the food was delicious. The portion sizes were perfect for sharing and tasting. I... heard positive feedback all around, especially in relation to the ramen (pictured), melon sake, and tuna (pictured). My favoritemenu items included the wagyu beef, duck onigiri (both pictured), and the cookies and cream mochi ice cream. Parking is rough. You should add 10-15 minutes to your travel time so you can circle the block. Beware! Fishtown has a lot of narrow, one waystreets. Read more

The food is more Asian fusion than traditional Japanese. It was ok, it's catering to the neighborhood. Best item I tried were... the shrimp tacos which says alot... lol. The place worth trying the at least once. Read more

Overall a tasty experience at Izakaya By Yanaga. Our favorites we tried were the octopus robata (simple yet amazing), maitake... bao, and the toro scallion role with uni on top. The tuna rice crisp, shrimp tacos and mushroom gyoza were good as well but notquite on the same level as the others. We started with the oysters but probably wouldn’t get them again. They tasted fine butwere teeny tiny. Izakaya is a great addition to the Fishtown scene and we’ll definitely be going again. Read more

Good drinks but rather mediocre food. Started off with ordering one of every item from the small plates section to get a broad... perspective. I’d say more than half was underwhelming and none was memorable. Read one review that recommended the fatty tunaroll which was just alright. This opinion was shared by the party at the table. Venue is pretty but quite dark. It’s big socan accompany a large party and there is a nice bar area. I think this place is nice to hang out and have a few drinks at thebar but For me, I’ll maybe skip the food unless I’m super hungry. Read more

Fast and friendly service, nice vibe and really good food. Will be back. Duck Onigiri, tan tan mazemen, shrimp sashimi and toro... tartare were some of the standouts. The east meets west cocktail was really good, as was the Mrs Robinson. Some dishes arebigger and could easily be a meal without anything else on the side Read more

The service was fast and quick but the food was average. I would highly recommend for the duck onigiri and any of the cocktails.... The sushi was basic and the rice bowl made me wish I got a poke bowl instead. Read more

*MEDIOCRE* 3.5 Stars I've looked forward to trying this place when I found out it was opened by Kevin Yanaga, who worked with... Starr and Schulson. The place has bar seating and table seating, first come first serve, no waitlist. Would recommend goingearly and not during peak dinner hours. Menu is relatively small, but with a decent variety of hot and cold foods. Price is notbad as well, average $10 per plate. All dishes are small tapas style, great for sharing. Overall, there are hits and misses.Cold food was a lot better than hot food. DINNER * Toro scallion maki - MUST GET. This roll was my favorite. Very comparable totoro you would get at Omakase. Fresh, quality, and they did not skimp out on the amount * West Coast Oysters - MUST GET. My 2ndfavorite item. Although the oysters are small, they are so fresh and texture so buttery, basically melted in my mouth. Theyclean it very well too. Would recommend getting Hamachi sashimi - pretty fresh yellowtail sashimi. Sauce is a bit on thelighter side compared to other hamachi dishes I've had. -Shrimp tacos - pretty good. It was unique that the taco shell isactually a fried wonton shell. I liked that it had a large piece of shrimp in it -Karaage - pieces were huge but not as friedcrispy as other karaage I've had. Batter was a bit think and kinda soggy -Duck Bibimbap - basically duck meat mixed in rice ina shape of onigiri. Didn't really get much duck. -Snow crab maki - snow crab didn't have much of a flavor. Kind ofdisappointed -Tantan mazemen - would not recommend getting. The sesame flavor of the meat sauce overpowered everything. Nodepth of flavor and it wasn't that spicy. *VERDICT* I probably would not go back again unless someone ask me to, and if I did,I would probably just stick to sushi. Read more
