Joe's came highly recommended from a local friend of ours as we visited Philadelphia. We were both really excited to endulge and... experience the infamous philly cheesesteak and Joe's didn't fail to deliver. The service was professional, courteous and veryattentive. The atmosphere felt very local but in a good way, they had angry rock playing but it didn't put of us off, made formore interesting conversations. The food was very flavorful in multiple ways. The bread was high quality which made up for theslight lack of seasoning on the steak, we however added peppers and sauces which brought the deliciousness up tenfold. We wentwith the old bay fries which were savory, delicious and crispy. And one thing I did notice was that they make your soda the oldfashioned way with the syrup then the soda water, mix and serve. The moment you walk into the door the staff great you. They treat you like family the moment you walk in. You can sit wherever... you like. You get a basket of pickles from the pickle bar. Don't have time to dine in that's alright they have a walk up 2 gowindow. Everything is open so you can watch them cook and make drinks etc. They have a great menu. As a bonus they are allergyfriendly and have Gluten Free buns!!! The steaks are great and the small is huge so the large is triple the size!! I love theold school soda they have. My favorite is chocolate coke and we also got the egg drop cream soda. They also have a kids menuwhich comes with a drink and fries. The sizes are great easy to split with a toddler and a 6 year old. They also have amazingshakes be sure to ask for the shake of the month. The server go above and beyond to make sure everyone is well taken care of onrefills etc. This place is clean and has 2 clean bathrooms. The portions are large and flavorful. The ONLY downside is parking. Food was great, service was fast and attentive and those pickles were delicious. Large fries are... enough for 3 people. Delicious!!! Update: had to take away 1 star. Drove 3 hours round trip to get sandwiches for family andfriends all the way from North Jersey. Ordered at the window and confirmed the order was correct and double checked with theyoung lady at the window when she gave it to me. Got home and my sandwich is not there. Instead of a 10" with onions, nocheese, is a 6" smothered in cheese wiz. Called and they offered to remake it. I'm not driving 3 hours round trip again. Read more
My first visit to Philadelphia I had to try the best cheese steak in town. I tried 2 places today and was very excited and... pleased with both. Joe's retains an old time diner feel (established in 1949). My buddy said the the strawberry milkshake wasexcellent, I had the vanilla egg cream, ice tea, old bay fries with whiz dip, and a cheese steak with lettuce, tomato, onion,marinara and mozzarella. I very much enjoyed the sandwich except the bread, it was more like an artisan roll or pretzel roll,very thick. To look at the sandwich, it appears very large, yet misleadingly so. The oversized bread gives it the appearance ofa mega sando. Don't get me wrong, the entire experience was great and I would eat there again, though next time I will do thesame but without bread. Oh, my stars?! I can?t tell you how much our group LUVED Joe?s Steaks + Soda Shop! This is the most authentic and classic... restaurant. The staff here are killing it, one steak/soda at a time!! The cheesesteak was outstanding, the milkshakes heavenly,and the birch beer was the BEST I have ever had in my entire life. The staff was incredibly helpful, kind, and fast. Our foodwas delivered piping hot and our group was thrilled with the meal. If I lived in Philly, this place would be on my monthlyrestaurant rotation. No frills, just great food and good people.
