The food was pretty decent and I enjoyed the hour-long drive (which was half the reason we went there). I liked some of the... unique menu options (like the Scallops Caesar). A few critiques: 1. There should be an option to have french fries or onionrings if you order a burger- this is standard practice anywhere else. It's a family-friendly place and kids tend to like frieswith their burgers- not a small bag of chips. 2. The girl at the counter wanted to give us our dessert first before the meal,putting it on a plate and giving it to me right when I ordered our lunch (even though I mentioned that we would be sharing itafter our lunch). 3. The bussing of tables was nonexistent. For us to split our dessert I had to clear the table (I don't minddoing it all that much but practically everything was self-service; I worked for tips when I was younger so I do believe in, atleast, doing something to earn them.). Per a recommendation from a friend, we went to The Vanilla Bean Cafe as a destination for a Sunday cruise in our cars. The Bean... is nestled away in the back roads of Connecticut, just west of Putnam. The Vanilla Bean was described as a car-and-bike-guy reststop and definitely saw that- tons of motorcycles and a few enthusiast cars. They have tons of sandwich options, a greatselection of baked goods and desserts, and indoor and outdoor seating. I simply had a hot dog with chips and a pickle, but thatwas plenty good and a really great freshly baked Brownie. If you seek a destination for a Sunday ride, the Vanilla Bean is agreat one. It's surrounded by some decent driving roads and is worthwhile of a jaunt on the hog or in the sports car. Read more
