Was looking for something different for dinner (6-7 pm) last night, so my friend and I decided to give Island Flava a try. We... were a bit hesitant at first because we were the only folks eating, which typically isn't a good sign. The fellow who waited onus was super cool and welcoming and then proceeded to tell us what wasn't available on the menu. We weren't sure how to takethis, but forged ahead. We had appetizers of coco bread and chicken wings. Took a little while to get to us, because thingswere being made fresh, to order! Great sign. The wings were really good (even without sauce), and I could have eaten anotherfew loafs of the bread. Our meals made it out to us - again, made fresh from when we ordered - and... I was totally upset thatthe place wasn't crowded. The food was FAN-TAS-TIC! I had the red snapper w/creole sauce and sides of black rice andcabbage/carrots. The snapper was a healthy portion cooked to perfection, and the sauce... wow... it was a red curry-ish saucewith (I think) scotch bonnet pepper in it? It had a little kick, but not overpowering at all. I could have eaten a bowl of thestuff like soup! My friend got the brown chicken (I think that's what it was called) with similar sides. Again, the saucewith this chicken was crazy good. It was dark and somewhat sweet, but not exactly like barbecue sauce. Almost like a hoisinsauce. Either way, phenomenal stuff. As a garnish of sorts, a couple of sweet plantains are served on the side. Again, couldhave eaten a bucket of those. We were happy with how we were treated by the staff, who kept our water glasses filled and werehappy to chat a bit. If you're getting a soda, I got a Jamaican "Ting," which is like Squirt, but not as sweet, and was verytasty. My friend got a watermelon soda which tasted like a combination of Jolly Rancher's candy and bubble gum. Thing is, theyhave a fairly wide variety of "different" sodas and beers, which was very welcome. My only suggesti Read more

I really wish I lived in Savannah so that I could be a regular at this restaurant. The food was beyond amazing. Very authentic... and flavorful. The Mac and cheese had me second guessing if I ever had Mac and cheese that good in my life. Everyone in therestaurant was very friendly and welcomed us with open arms even the owner. We felt like a part of the family. I will make atrip to Savannah just to visit this restaurant. This restaurant is black owned at its finest. Visiting this restaurant has beenthe highlight of our trip. Read more

We got into town late (around 9p/10p) & this was 1 of the few restaurants that was still open close to our hotel. Walking in,... the atmosphere itself leaves much to be desired BUT our biggest issue/concern so to speak was the lack of communication eitheron the cashier's side, the cook(s)' or maybe even both, I don't know. We wanted to try the Fried Beef, cashier informs us thatthey are completely out of beef. Okay cool, we'll do the Shrimp Creole. Cashier runs the card, goes to the back comes out &tells us they're out of Shrimp. I'm in the restaurant industry, you gotta make sure you're communicating with all of your staffespecially the Front of the House since they're the ones interacting with customers, & situations like that can and/or willleave a bad first impression. I love the plantains & He actually enjoyed the Curry Goat but it didn't have as much flavor asexpected. Neither of us liked the texture & taste of the Mac & cheese but that's a personal preference. Would try again the nexttime we're in town, but during lunch time instead. Read more
