Arrived at 6:15pm on a Wednesday wing night and waited 10 minutes for a server to take my drink order. After and additional 5... minutes my drink finally came and I placed my order of 10 wings to be told that they didn?t have anymore wings. I looked throughthe menu for something else that I might want so I ordered fried oysters with coleslaw and onion rings. 15 minutes later Ioverheard a party of 12-15 that had come in after us ordering wings. A few minutes later our server came to our table to let myson know that they didn?t have anymore baked beans that he ordered. We then asked our server about the other party orderingwings and her response was ? oh they told me they were out? so at that point we asked for our check for a Diet Pepsi,unsweetened tea and a bud light. We received our check and nothing had been comped so we paid our $7.72 cents for the worstdining experience that I have had in very long time! Food did not have much taste. The best part of my meal was the pie we had for dessert. Charged a convenience fee for using a... c/c. Service was something to be desired. Acted like she didn't want to be there. Ordered the shrimp tacos. Had to build themmyself. Read more

I give this restaurant threstaurant 3 stars for the fact that "The Surfs up" shrimp was most excellent. But only for that... alone. However the hush puppies were still raw on the inside so they were very creamy and cakey. And the French fries werehard and overcooked kinda burnt. We also asked for light salad dressing or on the side but the salad was smothered anddressing. The person that took our order took a very long time to pay attention to us even when we came back in at thedesignated time we were told. Almost like she was annoyed. She never smiled at us not one time. not from the beginning or atthe end. She didn't even tell us thank you for coming, here's your order order or anything nice at all or even have a good day.Nothing.... They even took 3 parties that arrived long after we were still sitting and waiting to and waiting to place it to goorder. Those 3 parties even got to order at be served something before they would even take art order. We just sat at the tableby the desk and look stupid but continued smiling. Both the waitresses called from across the room Would you like a table and wesaid no thank you we would like to place an order to go! Which in turn we were left sitting there Without placing an order andwatching other people be served. Even though their shrimp was excellent it was actually a pretty depressing visit at thisplace. The food was unacceptable and we were made to feel out of place and quite frankly an inconvenience. Spending $50 onthis type of experience is not something that we will ever do again. Read more
This is your standard seafood restaurant. Lots of fried goodness. They have dinners, platters, baskets and steamed is by... weight. Lots of choices for salads and chicken wing with sauces. I have the seafood platter. Flounder was good sized and donevery well. Just a bit of breading to hold it together. The shrimp and scallops were very good. The scallops were not over cookedand we're an even brown all over. The oysters were done all the way through. Firm, not chewy and definitely not undercooked. If you bring a large group, they have a room towards the back. Just remember the wait staff have to serve everyone inthe restaurant, not just in the room. They were working on a deck for sitting outside. When I go back I'll update this reviewto include that. They have a dessert case. Everything looked very good. I did not leave room by eating that platter. Will dobetter next time and update this review to include their desserts. Read more
We've been to Surf's Up a couple of times when visiting relatives in Poquoson and have enjoyed our meals there however, this... time was different. We ordered meals to go and enjoyed some things and were disappointed with others. My mother got friedoysters which she has gotten from Surf's Up several times and has said they were great. This time she found if difficult tofind any oysters and said the breading was very thick. I thought it looked like somebody had drained the dregs of an oysterbucket and used bits and pieces of oysters to pass off as oysters. There was definately more breading than oysters. She didsay the coleslaw was good. My husband had fried oysters too and said there were only bits of oysters and lots of breading. Hesaid the corn pudding was too sweet for him. I got a grilled crab cake and thought that was good, I'd get it again. I wasaware of the bread filler in the cake but that didn't bother me and I liked the flavor. I liked the sweet potato fries butdidn't care for the green beans, too mushy for me. The bottom line? My mom says the last few times she's eaten at Surf's Upshe's not been happy with the food she's gotten and does not plan to go back. My husband said he might give it another try. Since I liked my crab cake, I would go back again but I wouldn't get the green beans. Read more
Good food, upper moderately priced, good menu. I ordered an oyster dinner as they were out of scallops. Oysters were excellent... and not over cooked. Getting food out was somewhat slow but they were extremely busy that night. They have excellent homemadedesserts! Read more
It had been a while since I had been here and I?m not sure what has happened since my last visit but to say I was disappointed... in my experience would be putting it mildly. We went on a Wednesday which was advertised as their wings day. We were seatedpretty quickly but that is where the positive things I can say about this experience ends. We waited over 10 minutes for ourdrinks. Once they arrived it was another 25 minutes before our server came to take our order. We ordered wings and were toldthey were running low (we arrived at 6:15pm) but she would put our order in. After about 15 minutes the server came out to letus know they were out of wings. Although we were disappointed as the wing special was the main reason we had chosen thisrestaurant we ordered different items from the menu. Now comes the part that really made me furious. There was a large partysitting near us. They ordered more than 30 minutes after we did and multiple people ordered wings. I was somewhat confused as wewere told they were out When I questioned our server, she shrugged and said she didn?t know. The final blow was when we weretold that a side dish my son ordered wasn?t available. It probably would have been an option for the table next to us that wereable to order wings who very obviously knew the owner who was sitting at a table next to them. So my advice is if you are inwith the owner, you can probably get what you order. If they don?t know who you are may the odds be ever in your favor. Willnever be back again. Read more
