Reviews for The Steam Room in Port Jefferson, NY

The Steam Room is situated in beautiful, historic Port Jefferson seaport. I'm revising my original review and I am comfortable... with this. While it seems that the manager and workers seem well mannered and the seafood seems fresh, sadly I do have to limitmy overall rating based on what it's lacking. So the Steam Room is akin to a fast-food style place. When you walk in they seatyou, give you a menu then inform you that to order you go to the counter and wait on line. One line. Only one. It could beempty, it could go down the stairs out of the place. Just one line. So after ordering you get to your table and wait, whichisn't too bad. The drinks arrive first and sure enough the server tips their tray and here comes the lemonade all over theplace. Side note, the server also spilled a lobster platter on another table as well. The server was polite but apparentlythey don't know how to hold their tray. So on to the food. The raw clams and oysters are fresh. I've had so much better forthe price but at least it's fresh. The other seafood also seemed fresh, except the Calamari which by the way when fried shouldbe crispy. Theirs is not. No breading, not even a dusting. It had to be sent back. While the food in general is not bad, itseverely lacks in flavor. It appears they don't season anything. They have sauces and sea salt on the table but nothing isprepared with any seasoning at all. Even the Lemonade has little sweetness or even lemon flavor. So given that you have to pay3-star prices, wait on line to order, food is flavorless and not prepared so well, I know this place can do better. Also did imention the really obnoxious fluorescent signs right in your face? Outdoor lighting are these really strong fluorescent signswhere the pictures are fading and the glare in unbearable! Again this place can do so much better, but I don't think they'regoing to anytime soon. I will return in about a year once they bounce back from the pandemic a Read more

The food was ok. I was expecting something more impressive but it was fine. Pricey for what it was. Tacos, coconut shrimp and a... beer ran about 50 before tip. Read more

One of my favorite Port Jeff stops. You can dine inside or outside, it is a very casual atmosphere. The staff is always... incredibly friendly. Their menu has everything from a fisherman's platter to clams on the half shell. Their prices are alwaysextremely fair, and the food- I've never been disappointed. My favorite dish to get is the "pick two"- I'd definitely recommendgiving their fried scallops a try. You can sit and watch the ferries arrive and depart. There's no other place quite like it. Good seafood. I think this is the only spot near the ferry to get good seafood. I go especially for the Steamers. On this trip I... ordered a large beer, a bucket of Steamers and the Fried Fisherman's Platter. You order at the window and they bring your mealto you. For some reason my meal was delayed and everyone else had their food. When I asked about it, they took my receipt, butI'm pretty sure my total was close to $50. I don't recall the cost of the beer, which by the way was nice and cold. The Steamerswe're delicious. The platter was ok. I was disappointed with the fish. It was very small and thin. I would have wanted SeaScallops as an appetizer, but they only have fried Bay Scallops. They have Sea Scallops as a broiled dinner platter, but don'tunderstand why they wouldn't have fried Sea Scallops as an option. I would rather get several apps and can do without theplatter and fries and stuff. Read more

I used to love coming here, food was good. Prices decent was never a 5 star place but it was always comfort. The food was a hot... mess today. The fried calamari was inedible, honestly the worst I have had. Ordered a well done burger for son, came out mediumrare. Mozzarella sticks tasted like they were from the frozen food section and the waiter gave us dirty looks when we asked forwater along with our regular priced drinks. Think the years of coming here have ended. Thanks for the memories. Read more

Outdoor seating is dog friendly. Friendly staff. Open seating- order at the kitchen and they bring your food to your table. Beer... on tap. Fisherman Platter’s (fried fish, shrimp, scallops, calamari over fries) was yummy. The linguine in white clam saucewas ok - it was more like a buttery/creamy white, missing the clam flavor. Read more
