The food, atmosphere, and service here was fantastic. The seafood is super fresh and portion sizes are very reasonable. The... bread rolls were soft and warm. My dining companions loved the lobster and seafood stew. I enjoyed their pear salad and tunacarpaccio. The fig cheesecake was light and enjoyable while the chocolate cake was decadent and rich. Perfect restaurant tovisit if you’re in the area. Read more

We made a reservation for 2 at 6:15pm couple of weeks ahead, arrived at 5:45pm and got seated at 6pm. Reception host and waiting... staff were welcoming and friendly. Food was excellent - fresh oysters, cloverleaf bread was delicious though a bit on the oilyside, chopped vegetables salad was finely dressed, and last but not least, baked halibht and seafood stew which were both great! We emptied the dishes in no time, even the sauces! Don't forget to try their cocktails. Best meal we've had in Maine. Read more

Outstanding dining experience. Visited Scales for a birthday dinner and came away impressed with each aspect. Making a... reservation online was easy (and necessary!) and I was happy to see a birthday note at our table based on my reservation notes. From there, we had bread, soup, crudo, and oysters to start all of which were fantastic and went well with our cocktails. Forour main entree we split the halibut, which is perhaps the best prepared halibut I have ever tasted. To round out the night wehad delicious blueberry custard as well. From the service, to atmosphere, to the food I can see why it was so busy on aWednesday night at 9pm. Highly recommend and will be back. Read more

Best meal in Portland. Everything was so wonderful. The table by the water, the drinks, the food, the vibe and the service. ... Outstanding. The mussels were the most delicious and plump mussels I have ever had. They were amazing. The sauce was veryunique and memorable. The steak and scallops were also well prepared and delicious. I don’t think you could go wrongordering anything from their menu. Read more

On a scale to 1-10…Scales scores an 11. The Halibut was to die for, although I would prefer to survive and have it... again. The cornbread was a hit…it hit the spot. Our guests loved the flat fish. The decor and ambiance fit a Portlandexperience perfectly. Happy with our choice, the highlight meal of our trip. Read more

Fantastic food. Excellent service. Great atmosphere. Our recent visit to Scales happened on a Wednesday between Christmas and... New Years. The place was full, and energetic, but not uncomfortably so. We arrived 20 minutes early and they were able toaccommodate us immediately. Between all of our guests we tried oysters, duck liver mousse, the calamari, the steak, the halibut(excellent - and I’m not a regular fish eater) and a trio of desserts (the butterscotch sundae was so good). The only item weagreed we wouldn’t order again is the chocolate cake, but that should speak more to our personal tastes rather than itsquality. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The complementary valet was extremely helpful. And the restaurant wasdecorated beautifully for the holidays. Can not wait to return next time we visit Portland Read more
