Now I am NOT a person that would consider himself a sushi person, but this is not the first time I’ve been here. That being... said this IS the first time I came here without the hibachi. So before I go into the rest of the review, let me just say, pleasebring back the hibachi. That being said… It was really very good, Death by Sushi was the most memorable, the fire was sexy andI missed grabbing a photo before it went out, however, definitely had some swag. The service was great, attentive helpfulwithout being too present. Concrete walls carried sound so some areas were harder to hear in but all in all a great experiencethat I recommend to all those sushi lovers and non. I did not need a reservation but seating without a reservation was limited. Read more

Ordered a Death by Sushi, Kaarage, and a Kenzo rolls, along with a few drinks. This is hands down one of the best sushi places I... have had the opportunity to dine in. The fish was fresh and refreshing and the restaurant has bold flavors that have you wantingto come back for more. This restaurant is easily my top contender in Portland and I'm excited to come back during my next trip. Read more

I went to Masu expecting much more than I got. It was disappointing. As I was on my own, I sat at the bar. That was comfortable... and the service was good. The atmosphere was loud, but the decor is nice and contemporary. The staff appear to be overworked, but they are friendly. For my meal, I ordered sashimi: dungeness crab, yellowtail, and the salmon flight. The crab andespecially the smoked salmon were good, but the rest of the fish was dry, bland, and just plain mediocre. The rice was also notwell prepared. It was packed too firmly, lacked flavor, and wasn't a joy to eat. The presentation was fine, if uninspired. Read more

The sushi was good here, I wouldn’t say it was exceptional, but good. One was unnecessarily fancy, what my friend from Japan... called “American sushi”. The drinks were pretty tasty. The appetizers were hit and miss. The dumplings were good, however the crispy mackerel was more burnt than crispy. The worst part, the wait for food. It was middle of the week & wasn’t full, but sushi took about 35-40min to come out, then the other two small items took WELL OVER an hour. Read more

So we came here tonight for my wife's birthday, and it was amazing! It is an experience, so while it may take a little bit for... your food ('cause prep, etc), you get to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy each other's company for a bit. Lemme tell ya, whenour plates of food arrived, each one was more gorgeous and tasty than the last. Five star food, service, and atmosphere! Read more

I've been doing a Portland sushi tour with my parents at the start of the 2022. Masu was this week's pick and it has been the... best so far. The service here was fantastic. They are currently open for dine in and takeout. I opted for takeout as my folksare elderly and it is easier if I bring the food over. So I called in my take out order a day in advance and the hostess wasvery helpful to get it in first thing at open the following day. I arrived at the restaurant a little after open and even on aSaturday there was still ample parking infront. There's a small sign by a nondescript door and upon entering there is a steepstaircase you have to walk up to the second floor dining room. Fortunately, to the left of the main door is a separate entrancewith an elevator for those needing assistance At the top of the stairs I was quickly greeted and given a seat as my order wasbeing freshly prepared. The overall dining area was chic and had a great view with its expansive windows. I didn't get to enjoythe view for long as my order was ready to go. I was given lots of utensils, soy sauce, ginger with my food and I was quicklyon my way. The sushi here is excellent. The sashimi was fresh and delicious. The nigiri ratio of rice to fish was just right. Not too much rice overpowering the fish and not too much fish dwarfing the rice. For fine dining sushi the price wasreasonable. I ordered 5 rolls, chef's sashimi choice and lots of nigiri and the total bill was under $200. A great value imofor what you get. If you are ever looking for a quality sushi restaurant in downtown PDX make sure to check out Masu. Read more

I've been coming here for the past 2 years around this time. All I can say it's a great place for Date night! We came during the... snow storm and sat by the window, the atmosphere made it super romantic. The food were very fresh and plated really well. TheJapanista Roll is very unique to this place, the sear tuna and sweet chili sauce, and hana sauce combination was never somethingI have tasted before, kinda fresh and lemony for a sushi! They also had the Otoroo that day too, which was fresh, fatty, andmelted in your mouth . Highly recommended if you ever want to try, it's a bit speedy though. I would definitely go back here!
