The gumbo was very tasty. The base was not too rich and what I imagine some would call hearty. The shrimp and scallops were good... but seemed like they could've used a touch more seasoning (it'd also be nice to get more.) The rice could be a bit grainy. Thesausage was a little stringy and chewy, and the okra I felt was chopped a bit too large and tasted slightly bitter. The sweetpotato pie was nice tho the crust tasted store bought frozen. The sweet tea was also a tad sweet for me but very refreshingnonetheless. All that nitpicking aside, it was well above average compared to most other food trucks. Read more

Really freaking annoyed that they sold me soupy banana pudding. Went up to politely show them and offer a chance to fix or... replace it...and they're like "we could give you a free soda...or somethin...we didn't make this batch right" How about justNOT SELLING IT TO ME OR offering to refund it or fix it?! Just went to grab a Dulce De Leche Sweet Tea and was given the most disgusting drink I?ve ever had. Lukewarm watery instant... flavored tea. After this and a couple hit or miss experiences with the food; its clear that this place is best avoided. Read more

I previously reviewed this place and gave it 2 stars, I am now giving it 1. This was horrible, the "gumbo" had no juice. The... rice looked digusting. There was no shrimp in the gumbo. The shrimp and grits looked like it had been sitting for hours and bowlwas only half full. I spent 50 dollars for food I can't eat. I will not be returning to establishment. Previous post: Some ofthe worst red beans I have had in a long time. They were bland and tasted of artificial flavoring. I have only heard goodthings, so maybe I caught them on a bad day for beans. Gumbo base was ok but a little off. I have been eating Gumbo my wholelife, and don't mind adaptations and interpretations. It's gumbo! However, I think this gumbo is a glorified vegetable soupwith meat options. Good veggie soup tho. Way too much sauce on the shrimp and grits, I couldn't even taste the grits. Fooddeficnitely smelled better than it tasted Read more

One of a small chain of Gumbo food carts. I had gumbo with chicken and scallops. It was thick, flavorful, warming, and had... everything a gumbo should from okra to dark roux. I will definitely becoming back Read more

I had The Trinity (pictured), which is a large bowl of moderately spicy gumbo, with chicken, shrimp and Andouille sausage. The... service was friendly, polite, and fast. The spice of the gumbo was a good, happy medium, the quantities of meat were generous, the prices seemed pretty reasonable, the gumbo was served very hot, and kept its heat, which I feel bodes well for return visitsin the Fall / Winter / Spring, in particular, as well as for the freshness of carry out or delivery orders. When I preparegumbo, I like it a bit thicker, and with plenty of okra in it, as it is one of my favorite seasonings. Just personal preference.I think Mumbo Gumbo's is a slightly different style of gumbo than I am used to; forgive my ignorance, but I believe theirs is a"dark roux?" Definitely didn't see any chunks of okra, and I don't think I tasted any, but they do have other menu items, whichdo specify that they contain it, so I will definitely be back to try one or more of those, and if they are good, will probablybump the rating up to five stars, as cajun food is fun, but seems to be uncommon, in Portland. I don't know if his name was really Griffin but you made me two wonderful Shrimp and Grits bowls and I went to go take them to... recently widowed lady from church. We very much enjoyed our meal. We a great conversation about how rich and flavorful it was.Thank you for making a tender moment just so sweet. P.s. these berries are so pretty. Read more
