Dollar oysters were good, a little small but they were fine and the service was great. Went back 10/11/2022. Horrible! Chilli... was cold, steak bomb should have been called onion sandwich, a piece of steak the size of a piece of bacon, burnt bread. Way toopricey for what you get!! Get a decent chef! Read more
The only reason I gave this place any stars at all is because our server did everything she could to make our experience better... but I was pretty much turned off the second I walked into this place. We got there around 11:30 shortly after they opened andwas greeted by a very unfriendly hostess( turns out she also bartends)bartender. Try smiling just a little instead of giving methe impression that your job is the last place you'd like to be!. Now the food. The first time I took my daughter here which wasabout 6 months ago she did not like the food at all but I really wanted to try this place again and I should have listened toher. We were a party of 4. My girlfriend ordered the goat cheese Pizza and my daughters boyfriend had the meat lovers pizza.BOTH were delivered to our table burnt to a crisp!! I wanted to send it back but my girlfriend insisted on leaving it becauseshe didn't want it to get thrown away( which is what they should have done before serving it to us!). My daughter ordered theblack bean burger which was overcooked and tasteless. She didn't even eat 3 bites and pushed it away. I ordered the Frenchonion soup which had MAYBE a quarter sized glob of cheese in it and again... very tasteless. I also had the Buffalo chicken Mac& Cheese which was pretty good. All in all I spent $130 for horrible food that should have been thrown in the garbage! I havenever left such a disappointing review! Again the server was the only ray of sunshine of this LAST visit to this place. Thisplace has a lot of potential as it's menu is pretty impressive and decor is very inviting. Upon entering we were not greeted but met with a flat, "Four?" as the hostess/bartender grabbed menus. We were promptly seated &... they were empty until we were almost done with our meal. The waitress who came over was friendly & helpful. Although the servicewas great throughout the meal, the food was not. Goat cheese pizza was burnt on edges & crust could hardly be cut with a steakknife. Some of the spinach was just crispy & dry on the crust. Meatlovers pizza was full of meats & cheese, but toppings & crustedges were burnt & bottom almost burnt. Veggie burger was charred on outside & mushy on inside, so it went uneaten. The Frenchonion soup didn't have much flavor & was served with very little cheese. If you go here, stick with the chowder, buffalo mac &cheese & onion rings; they were enjoyable. Read more
This was our first time and likely our last. We went on a Saturday night around 7:30pm for dinner. It took about 10 minutes to... seat us, many of the staff seemed confused and were running aimlessly. Most of the tables were covered in dishes with no peoplesitting. When we finally got seated, the waitress came over about 15 minutes later. She appeared drunk (and the smell of boozeand slurring didn?t help). She took our order but came back to the table twice to clarify things (she said she couldn?t read herwriting!) and ask for the drink order again. Took about 20 minutes to get the drinks. Food came out shortly after but my saladwas a mess. It even included the stems of the romaine lettuce head. The food was over priced and not great. The people next tous ordered drinks but never got their food. They ended up leaving and refused to pay for their drinks (don?t blame them). Thisplace needs better management (or an on site manager) to get organized and keep the waitresses from drinking on the job! Read more
Stopped in for an unplanned bite to eat and loved it! Great place - cool building, bar, and outside seating area. There was... some acoustic/vocal entertainment - young guy with a pretty impressive play list and variety. As per the waiter'srecommendation, we went with the fig pizza. It was excellent! Beer selection/menu was very good too! Outdoor space, decor,and atmosphere was my favorite - gas fire pit and heaters, along with cafe lighting strung-up throughout. We will return!!! Read more
This was my second time at Portsmouth Publick House. My first experience was fantastic - easily a 4.5 star experience. Food was... better than expected and service was great. We got a beer, margarita sampler thing, pork nachos, and a BBQ pizza. The drinkswere great, nachos were amazing (huge portion - they dump everything onto a pizza try and bake it), the pizza is huge (16?) andreally good. This second time, however, was less than stellar - probably 3.5 stars. My wife and I stopped by the car museumdown the road for a fundraiser and thought we?d grab a quick bite since we enjoyed it so much the first time. Unfortunately, thenachos this second time around were burnt and the service was a bit slow. The fried pickles and Asian dumplings were great. Onething I didn?t love (personal preference) was they don?t serve Coke products (only Pepsi). As a DC addict, this was adisappointment. Our server was friendly and accommodating but didn?t check in very often. I?m sure I?ll be back but may be alittle pickier with the timing and order. Read more
Very impressed, had a Cuban sandwich w/ the best sweet potato fries I've ever tasted. Husband with very pleased with his... buttered lobster roll. Fast & super friendly service, will return. Read more
Tried for the first time, 12:30 on a Sunday, only customer in restaurant, ordered beers an appetizers, the pulled pork nachos... was very good, an came on a 16" pizza pan, enough for 4 people, typical fare, would try again. Read more
