I rarely go to Italian restaurants: the marinara sauce is too acidic at most places. So I just avoid them. My family suggested... Villa Capri based on a friend's experience, so we tried it. This review is past due since I've now eaten there twice. Thisreview is of our most recent visit. We started with the mixed seasoned grilled vegetables - a perfectly prepared combination ofzucchini, summer squash, red and green peppers, and mushrooms. Sadly, you only get a picture of zucchini, as we devoured therest before I thought to get a picture. My daughter had the Penne Elena - grilled salmon with penne pasta, prepared with glutenfree noodles. She said her salmon was not overcooked, which can be a problem at some places. As you can see, it lookedamazing. My wife had the Francesca - also penne pasta with salmon, but this salmon was mixed into the dish along with asparagustips, leeks, and a pink tomato sauce. She enjoyed it immensely. I had the Ravioli special for the evening - basic cheeseravioli but with spinach added, in a basil marinara sauce. Beautiful, flavorful, thick sauce with no hint of acidity. Toppedwith fresh grated Parmesan, Don't be afraid to try the house red wine. It nicely complemented my meal. And good gluten freechoices are always a welcome find. We'll be back. Read more

Had a nice meal at Villa Capri! Cute restaurant, good food, and good wine list. I had the butternut squash ravioli special... which was really tasty. There are a few other dishes that look good as well, so I plan to return and try more! Also a bonusthat they are kid friendly. Read more

Very nice staff. We arrived at meal time without a reservation, but they managed to seat is anyway. That was just the start of a... fine dining experience. All the menu items we chose were freshly prepared be experienced living hands and served graciously byskilled staff. We were treated like honored guest on someone's home. What more can I say? Sal and Oliver were great! We had the artichoke appetizer (garlic!), the Italian salad (lots of good stuff), and the creamy... Gorgonzola gnocchi with walnuts. Good size portions on the latter two dishes. We ate out on the patio, and the fresh air waswonderful. Read more

Not sure what all the fuss is about? I am extremely surprised by all the praise for this restaurant? Perhaps it is different... when you dine in. The website states traditional Italian food, more like traditional 'American Italian' food. Either people areextremely hungry and love anything they swallow or not well traveled. As far as my experience goes; I called a take out order. The guy answered and said sure what would you like, oh actually can you please hold. Got back on phone and hung up. I calledagain, asked if I could hold. Another guy picked up and received my order. Fine. My best friend picked up the meal, said theplace was hopping and the atmosphere seemed fun. Nice. Now most importantly the food; The Pollo Parmigiana was basic, the sideof mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box, and the best part of the dish were the vegetables. The meat lasagnadefinitely had a nice blend of cheese but you would have to search for the meat inside. Finally the gnocchi was decently cookedbut the sauce was common. In fact when it comes to the sauce on all 3 dishes, they all seemed to be watery without any delicioustexture whatsoever. I am quite surprised by all of the reviews claiming how amazing and delicious the food was? I tastednothing but too much salt in every bite and not enough Italian flare, American or otherwise. Having family in Long Island NYand familiar with many cities in Italy and Sicily, this is NOT traditional. My best friend asked the next day if I wanted anyof the leftovers. My response; is that some sort of sick joke?! You want authentic and delicious 'Italian' food in San Diego,go to The Godfather on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. Trust. Read more

I ordered the osso bucco (off the menu). My husband ordered the eggplant parmesan. Our meals & service were out of this world.... Excellent. Great! 10 stars. So is the house Chianti & the tiramisu. Soup to nuts a 5 star meal for 2 star prices. Do nothesitate. The ambiance! The "you are family". Priceless. A true gem in Del Mar. Read more

The food was fine though it was more expensive than I felt it should have been for the quality. We will probably not go back.... The Veal Piccata had way too much flour and the pesto separated to an oily mess before we were even done. We didn't even getthe wine which was minium $12 a glass for some whatever house red. I did enjoy the tiramisu. Read more
