After coming back from San Diego, a town with a dearth of good Chinese food, this place was a godsend. Long king house is a... Shanghai style restaurant and as with all shanhainese style restaurants an early indicator of quality is the soup dumplings, orknown in Chinese as the xiao long bao (xlb). And it delivered! The xlb were packed full of flavor and broth with a good size. Avegetable dumpling exists as well for those who are vegetarian and that is delicious as well when combined with the soup sauceand vinegar. As Shanghai is a coastal city, its people have a fondness and long history with seafood and so it's not surprisingthat long king house provides amazing fish, crab and shrimp dishes. The shrimp was cooked in an interesting style and the shellwas crispy and contained a lot of juice. Although normally I would dislike the fact that the shrimp was not deveined i supposethats the trade off for the shrimp to maintain it's incredible juiciness by keeping the shell intact. The crab was amazing andthe shell was crispy enough that for the most part you could break the shell with your bare hands. As for the fish, it was friedand glazed with a sweet sauce and garnished with shrimp. I took another box home for later! After several months ofdisappointing Chinese food meals in San Diego, long king house is a nice reminder that east coast is the feast coast. Read more
We stumbled upon this lovely 1mth+ resto. Siaw leung pao (shanghainese soup dumplings) is the specialty here, made fresh to... order using a time-honored family recipe. Unlike northern chinese dumplings, shanghainese dumplings are delicate with thinpastry, as they rightly should be; we had the steamed pork and crab dumplings and they were full of umami and juicy.
