Overall the experience was wonderful. Food, ambience, service - all great. The price on the other hand, while expected, is a... little hard to swallow beyond a special occasion and even then, it's a stretch. An $80 bottle ($20 at Wine Loft) while notshocking is a little chaffing. A side plate of asparagus for two, $14. Added up, a remarkable dinner out for two, complete witha lovely conversation with the owner and fabulous desserts (best key lime pie ever) with coffee each, tip included... Over $300.It was a wonderful experience but sadly won't be happening again anytime soon. Overall, I'd highly recommend Bookbinders, asone of if not THE finest winin' and dinin' of all the wines n' dines in town (Baby Driver), just brace when the check lands. Read more

Had an amazing meal with the family! We often partake in fine dining, and must say that Ben was honestly one of the best servers... we've ever had. He was personable and quick to make suggestions, and was just all around a pleasure! Highly suggest thisrestaurant, and would definitely go back! Read more

Excellent service & food was outstanding.... their reputation held very true! Group of 5 friends, all out of state & our first... visit, found on Open Table. Atmosphere was lively and lively and felt rich in history. Entrees included swordfish, filet, fried shrimp & pork chops. They were late getting the swordfish to the table but greatly apologized & offered a complimentarydessert. I had a wedge salad that was wonderful, the ciabatta table bread was excellent as well. Nice wine selection... I chosea glass of Malbec to go with my cider glazed pork chops. The chops were very good & the baked apples & cider glaze wasoutstanding & a generous portion. We ordered sides for the table of garlic mashed potatoes and the cream corn au gratin whichwas an interesting twist and very good! Everyone loved their entrees & the desert options were very good. I had the darkchocolate pate with mixed berries that was as tasty as it was beautiful. The New York Chocolate Layer Pudding Cake was alsoreportedly rich & moist. We would not hesitate to return to this fine restaurant when traveling in this area again and willdefinitely recommend to ot least recommend to others! There is a nice parking lot right across the street and we felt like wepulled into one of the last spaces available that wasn't handicapped. Our reservation was 5:45 pm so I wonder how availableparking is at a more later/prime time. Read more

By far one of the best restaurants anywhere. The ambiance, food, and staff are second to none. I have sample many things on... the menu but, it's the seafood that has me always coming back. The staff is well educated on the food and wine selections andshows pride and excellence in their profession. This is my family's favorite place to go to celebrate and treat ourselves. Read more

A M A Z I N G! Everything about my dinner experience was excellent. I was seated quickly (I had a reservation) and my menu had... “Happy Birthday Katherine” written at the top. So special and a sweet touch. I ordered the crab cake. At first I was alittle disappointed that it was only 1 crab cake but it was huge and definitely filled me up. The food was out quickly and theservice was amazing. Everything was so delicious. There were multiple servers clearing our table, bringing us drinks, and givingus dessert recommendations. Our main server was Amanda and she was incredible - Very attentive, kind, and funny! The dessert wasalso phenomenal, we got the crème brûlée and a piece of chocolate cake and it did not disappoint. Only downside is theparking, had to park a couple blocks away but oh well it’s downtown so I didn’t expect much parking close by. Read more

Unbelievable experience! From the atmosphere to the service this place is special. Our server Ben went out of the way to make... our family dining experience one to always remember. The food was absolutely phenomenal. We had the best crab cakes ever (nobreading!)! The escargot, jumbo chilled shrimp and lobster were exactly what one should expect from fresh east coast seafood. The filets were definitely high end. The desserts were truly the icing on the cake. We can’t wait to come back toBookbinder’s! Thank you all for a great experience. Read more

I’m a little late in my review but my partner and I just celebrated our anniversary. I have always heard great things and was... looking for a restaurant open for dinner on a Tuesday night, something surprisingly tricky in RVA. I was immediately impressedwhen I got a phone call the day before our reserved time asking if it was okay that they print a special message for us on ourmenus (I indicated on the reservation it was an anniversary celebration) My positive feelings did not waver the day of. Thewhole experience was amazing. The staff, the food, the atmosphere… I seriously can’t wait to come back here when it’swarmer and enjoy their patio area. They made the entire experience a breeze. Normally parking is a nightmare in Shockoe Bottombut with free parking in the parking lot across from the restaurant, we ended up getting there early. Our waiter, Zach, wasdelightful and accommodating. He had some stellar recommendations (seriously - listen to him when he says to try the tuna),never left us waiting too long, but also gave us the time and space to enjoy our night. The bartenders who served us wereawesome too. The food was incredible; we had a whole assortment of food including tuna, crab cakes (my family is from MD and Istill love these crab cakes, they’re that good!), scallops, a lovely chocolate dessert… I could go on and on about thisplace but point is, I highly recommend. It is a bit pricey (it is a seafood place after all, it’s really not bad for what youget) but take advantage of their happy hour deals if you’re looking for a more budget friendly night out, otherwise this isthe spot for you for any special occasion! Thanks again to the staff of Bookbinder’s for making our night so special. Read more
