KAWAII AT A COST - Chum Chum Onigiri wins points for atmosphere and originality, but somewhat disappoints in flavor. If,... intrigued by the name, you step inside, you’ll be greeted by a rosy pink aesthetic and a bustling interior - after its moveinto the farmer’s market, the cafe is a bit crowded, but there are plenty of French and Vietnamese wares to browse and a shadygarden patio for slurping down boba. We were excited to try onigiri, or rice balls, for the first time and ordered the salmonand pork belly. Both were simple, dry, and a bit underwhelming. The brown sugar milk tea was syrupy sweet and the boba was chewyand dense. However, the bingsu, or Korean shaved ice, was the highlight of the meal. We opted for a build-your-own bowl andwere delighted by the range of toppings and syrups. The sweet, creamy base paired beautifully with a tangy strawberry syrup andplump mochi. At eight dollars, it was on the pricier side for an icy treat, but the generous portion was more than enough fortwo. On a hot day in Richmond, I’d recommend first time guests skip the onigiri and boba and make a beeline for the bingsu, sit back in the leafy patio, and imagine - if only for a moment - they’re at a Korean cafe. KAWAII! Very cute little Onigiri shop with lots of unique items. They also give you the option of having your Onigiri made warm.... Boba tea is delicious too but there are many other treats as well, such as Takoyaki, salted duck egg bao, and Bingsu bowls.Staff was also very friendly. Read more

This may be the only place that serves onigiri in Richmond. Cute shop, great flavors. Super charming and kawaii. Sauces are... extra charge. Was expecting the sausage and egg onigiri as well as the garlic butter salmon onigiri to be warm, but they wereserved room temperature although still delicious. I got a strawberry vegan bubble tea with crystal lychee pearls. The cutestlittle table was outside to sit, as there is not yet indoor dining available. Read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I've visited once early November 2020 as I was passing through Richmond and needed a quick bite. The lady at... the store was super kind and fast. I was skeptical at first as there weren't a lot of reviews or photos on Google or Yelp so Itruly hope this helps as I've realized they recently opened. Love supporting small businesses! I got 2 sweet potato rice ballLOVED IT, a tofu rice ball and a shrimp appetizer. Definitely trying their boba next time. What I love most about this place istheir sustainability with bamboo boba straws and paper bowls. LOVE IT! I hope you get more businesses! Read more

I went to the grand opening and I decided to try a lot of things. The tteokbokki was really good and everything I wanted. I... really enjoyed the flavor of the dumplings and the sauce that came with the dumplings was very flavorful. I got the brown sugarmilk tea and the brown sugar flavor in the boba was really nice. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the vegan onigiri was.It was braised tofu and it was so good. I think everything was reasonably priced and I highly recommend trying it! Read more
