We were looking for a place to eat on a Sunday night when restaurants are already closed, and we were really surprised how... wonderful this place was. It started with the decor and music at the perfect volume for talking. Then the decaf coffee wasdelicious. The menu included breakfast (crepes, waffles, pancakes, french toast, omelets, & more) lunch (2 homemade soups,salads, hamburgers, and sandwiches) and dinners (pasta, chicken, pork, ribs, steak). I recall this place opening not too long ago, so I was eager to try it out and see how the place was doing. One thing I do love... about a cafe is the aspect of all day breakfast, and Sweet Basil provides such! The menu has TONS of options so you are sure tofind something you can enjoy. The staff are very friendly and the environment is very home-like and clean. One thing you arecertain of getting here are excellent sized portions of food, you are not going to leave hungry! The food is very satisfying andthe ingredients are fresh and well prepared. Overall a great experience! HOWEVER. I do wish to add a side note. While I wasvisiting, seated at the table next to me was a man who claimed to be the "owner." He had a lady guest with him and the duo hadordered at least five or six full plates of food, their entire table was loaded with food! They merely poked at the food,laughed, chatted, and just left, leaving all of the nearly untouched food to just be picked up by the waitresses and thrownaway. Sure, you may be the owner, but it takes a certain level of arrogance and disrespect to just have your staff work hard tomake all of that food to merely impress someone just to throw it all away. It could have been taken come, or just have it boxedup and hand it to one of the hungry panhandlers out there. With so many hungry people, food costs rising, and familiesstruggling, it takes a certain level of "I'm too important to care" to remotely justify this "owner's" wasteful actions. Read more
Only reason for two stars is the waitress was wonderful. Our food took over half an hour and they weren?t busy. And then... everything arrived and it was completely overcooked. Very disappointing for our first visit. Read more
Let me tell you something. My wife and I randomly stopped in, and the environment was so inviting. There is so much on their... menu that it took me 20 minutes to decide what to order. In addition to the great portions, the food is delicious as well. Youmust ask for Rashaun the server if you go. He is funny and feels like he could be a family member or a best friend. You can askhim for tips or advice. My wife and I both laughed so hard while we were at his table, and he did the same for the rest of histables. First time there. Looks really nice. Menu is big serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had brunch. Workers said hello which I... liked. Our server Rosie was Great gave good recommendations on food. Jambalaya omelet So Good all food Good. ( didnt care forbiscuts gravy tho) May seem a Lil Pricey but by looking at pics you get $ worth. Can't wait for next visit. Read more
Absolutely loved it here. The girl that sat us was very nice and polite, and our waiter Nathan was the best. Without hesitation... he answered all our questions and was very helpful in what we wanted to order. The food portions were massive compared to anyplace here in Rockford plus the food was very fresh and hot. We will definitely be back, and suggest anyone reading this reviewto ignore the "Karen" reviews because obviously they don't know a good restaurant when they see one. Read more
