Sometimes the Gator has to leave the coast. So today we ventured thru the country for another exceptional lunch at Woodpeckers... Backyard BBQ. Wasn't our first time here and won't be our last. Mrs. Gator had Ribs, Sausage, Mac & Cheese and Cole Slaw. I wentstraight for the Ribs, Baked Beans and Cole Slaw. Both lunches came with ample buttered Texas Toast and we both did a wash downof Sweet Tea. If you're looking for BBQ, Put this place on your Go To List! Favorite local BBQ! Tucked away under a bunch of old Live Oaks. Love this place. Suck great food, always hot and always... delicious. Eat in or dine out. Best sweet tea ever. All meats are always tender, love the green beans, collards, Mac and cheese,beans and slaw. We had brisket, turkey, sausage, datum sausage and too. Just so good! I love BBQ, and this has been on my list of spots to try for a long time. Locals rave about this place! We wound up going right... when they opened at 11am so we could dine in and not have to wait in line. This place can get packed so plan accordingly! Thereare several meat and side options that you typically find at many BBQ restaurants. I wound up going with the two meat platedinner. I ordered chicken (dark meat), pulled pork, baked beans, and coleslaw. The plate comes with buttered toast. I alsoordered an additional side of mac n cheese. There were several sauces to choose from such as sweet, mustard, vinegar, andmore! The baked beans was the star of the meal. Probably some of the best I've ever had! The mac n cheese was average. The restof the food was good, but I wouldn't say it's the best I've ever had (or even the best in the Jax area imo). The service wastop notch! Our waitress checked in on our table frequently and always made sure our drinks were filled. Dessert is offered here,but we were all too full to try any. The only real knock is that it seemed a bit pricey compared to other spots I've been to.Granted, ongoing inflation may be impacting their pricing. Read more

Looking for the best BBQ in Jax? Woodpeckers may VERY well be the place to find it. Absolutely delicious meats (especially the... sausage), and classic sides will keep your attention so long as the staff isn't around to crack you up. I have never been big into BBQ but Woodpeckers absolutely changed my mind. The brisket was a DREAM, the sauces were delicious... and the ambiance was delightful. Usually when I think of a BBQ place, I anticipate sticky and messy but this place (though lowkey) is pristine! The service is so incredibly welcoming and kind and again the food is phenomenal.
