INCREDIBLE FOOD & STAFF! I was just in Salem for my best friends wedding. I ate at El Maguey 3 times in 3 days - it was that... great. The Chicken Azteca is absolutely delicious. Great drinks too. Great staff - very friendly and attentive. The bathroom"sink" design threw me and a friend for a loop - it's now a new legendary story. The food was great. The service was fast. Nice serving size. The restroom was clean.
Came in by myself this evening and asked to sit upstairs outside. There was only 4 tables with people one of which was done and... paying out. Then another table of people (4) came in after me. The waiter made sure he helped them before me and then proceededto ignore me for another 20 minutes. Apparently single people do not get served. No one brought me any chips nor asked me what Iwanted to drink. When I got up to leave and went downstairs the same waiter acted like I was crazy for not waiting anotherhowever long to be waited on and argued with me about not getting waited on. I never complain about things because things happenBUT it was not busy at all and I was treated like a homeless person begging for food. So I left and came to Taco Bell and gotserved immediately with smiles and greetings! Pretty pitiful when you get treated better at a fast food joint and spend less andthe tacos are better!!!!! This past Saturday 5/14 late afternoon entering the restaurant with a baseball team waiting to be seated. I tried to put our... name in several times to be put on a list if they were taking names. The manager/maybe owner took his hands to wave me on (likedismissing me or language barrier) several times, ugh. A waitress that I witnessed several times try to take care of every tableon her own, noticed us and apologized then seated us. 20min later finally the same waitress noticed we haven't been waited onyet. During this time waiting I noticed again the owner or manager yelling at this waitress that she needed to pay for severalpeople's drinks/food from people leaving while waiting on their food. People were tired of waiting on service and food sobailed. This is not the waitress's fault. Yes, it crossed our minds to leave too but I was worried for this waitress. Allrestaurants have a bad day and the way the world is right now being short-staffed is everywhere. We need to have more patiencebut last year we had perfect food and service in the outside seating on the roof. With a whole baseball team coming into therestaurant I believe they panicked. Everything was concentrated on that. Then I noticed this baseball team haven't receivedtheir drinks nor food 40min in. I know the food is good here and came a long way away to eat here. Our food was cold when wereceived it but didn't complain to our waitress or the food runner we saw starting to help. Our Biggest complaint here is tokeep your great staff that you have on hand and don't yell at them or tell them they have to pay for food/drinks when customersdecided to leave from waiting too long. Microwave worked great to heat it back up at home. After reading the other reviews it isnot the owner that was rude to us maybe management staff. Who knows!
