This is a quaint, unique restaurant situated inside a historic building, the former home of John Steinbeck. The waitstaff are... volunteers, eager to share the homes history. The food is wonderfully prepared. High tea is offered the second Saturday of themonth. I'm looking forward to going back and trying a different menu item. Read more
Walkin up th stairs into..... see the end The hostess and all the staff who welcomed us are all volunteer, they are welcoming, ... amazingly warm, friendly, bursting with excitement and energy willing to tell another and another story. Or introduce you tothe delightful wonderful meals of the day prepared by their special "chef"; the "Steinbeck Country Sheriff he roams theestablishment, its never a dull moment, always a tid bit about something splendid about the town and John Steinbeck, hishistory, friends and family. He seems so familiar, you want to hear them over and over again. At the house we were soenthralled with everything, every moment having lunch in the "parlour" only where special guests were served, right across fromthe one fireplace! This was a great ambience. The house was out of a real picture book! After lunch we were flurry down theback exit to the bookstore, that was a very wonderful pleasant experience! I loved every minute of browsing. Although I did notpurchase anything that time. When I go back there are definitely a few items I will purchase. Did you know that the Steinbeck House is mostly run by volunteers? It is, and they do a fantastic job with service and treating... you special for your lunch or dinner out. Every corner of this house is historic, beautiful,and preserved well. I recommendeating here for that very special meal you will not regret it. Read more
