Everything was great! We called ahead as everyone seemed to have an enormous wait, and while there was no wait at the time, the... staff still asked for my info to be proactive in case they got a rush in the 20 minutes it would take us to get there. We weregreeted by friendly staff who were genuinely happy to see our kids and put them in a positive mood (which makes getting them toactually eat so much easier). From that point forward, every detail was perfect. For those accustomed to chain restaurants,expect a 99 restaurants atmosphere which is perfect for small children who are guaranteed to make some noise. The drinks werestrong and delicious. The swordfish was the best I've had outside of my own home (ok, maybe better, but I'm not going to admitthat). Even the broccoli was just right to make 3 different people at out table happy, who all like it a bit different. Nospecial request was denied, and we all left feeling welcomed, our business truly appreciated, and a return visit hoped for. Ican't speak for how good or bad the other places are in the area, but I can certainly recommend that you give this place a try.If you're looking for a fancy place with candles and whatnot, you won't be happy, but for the rest of us this place is perfect. I've been to this location three times. The first two times, we had an outstanding visit. The lobster rolls and drinks were... fantastic. The second time, one of us got a seafood plate (HUGE and excellent) and one of us got a haddock sandwich - deliciousand also huge, with drinks. Caitlin during our second visit was wonderful. We sat in the same seat both times. We both ravedabout this restaurant to friends and family, and had friends go in because of our recommendation. I went to visit recently andbrought a new friend that I was making the recommendation to. I went and sat in the same seat for a third time. It appearedthe table needed a quick wipe down - there were no dishes or trash on the table - and this restaurant is seat yourself, so wehonestly didn't actually notice until we had been right over the table and even at that point, we were in no rush. My friendand I had catching up to do, so we waited to be taken care of; we seriously didn't mind at all. The bartender apparently did. She was so upset with us, or appeared to be, and treated us so poorly we were actually speechless. She came to wipe the tabledown and I said "Hi there". She ignored me, and then once the table was wiped down, she said "Hi" and walked away to grabmenus. I asked my friend if she was upset with us or something. (It was barely 3PM - it wasn't busy and she didn't appear tobe overwhelmed... Based on my observation, she's family and has been working there forever, so I'm sure she has experiencedthat facility much busier). She came by with menus and asked if there was something we wanted to drink. (I had been therebefore and intended to get a martini, but since my friend had not, I said I would have a water for the moment). We just left the Tavern and for the first time were disappointed with our waitress. Our previous experiences were always... excellent service and food. Today there were only one or two other tables of two. She came by to check on us two minutes intoour meal which was fine but we only began eating our Cole slaw. We had our favorite Baked Haddock and delicious ButternutSquash. She never came back again. She sat at a table rolling silver, chatted with another waitress, and basically moped around. When we were finished we waited a while before she came to the table. She left the bill and didn't even converse or take thesix empty dishes off the table. Again, if they were busy we would cut her some slack. She kept our change of 85 cents and justbrought the cash change. For the first time we did not leave a good tip. When in the past, we always left way over twentypercent and enjoyed our service. Not a pleasant experience today. She's not going to make much with that type of "effort". Read more
Amazing amount of food! The 1st Mates Platter (choose 2) could easily feed 3 people. Almost everyone that left was carrying a... doggy-bag. For $52 we split the platter and had 3 beers. (Bee-yahs)...eat here. It's wicked good. Read more
The restaurant name came to me with awesome reviews and I was not disappointed. Went for lunch today. I ordered the seafood... platter which came with 2 sides. I ordered fries and grearcoleslaw. When the waitress brought my I was shocked. The quantity wasvery large. The coleslaw was enough for 2 people. The waiterss was helpful sociable easy to talk to. Good food and service. I had fish chowder for a quick warm up, marinated steak tips, well done, with rice pilaf and squash as... sides. Chocolate Lava cake for dessert. Restaurant has a ???? and atmosphere that you would see the crews from"Deadliest Catch"hang out at. ( The crews behaved themselves while being filmed in restaurants.) This restaurant is family friendly and has WiFi.Bathroom was in decent shape, just looks old. Only issues, you may not want to order meat "well done". But, the meat was nottough or chewy. I could taste the marinade. Fish chowder could have had more fish, but, I showed it no mercy. Popular becausepeople ordered it to go even after their meal. I was told they ran out of their popular items, but, they were items I wasn'tgoing to order. I recommend a visit. Read more
We get the captain's platter for 2, enough seafood to take some home as well. Great atmosphere, very nice and attentive... waittesses. Would definitely go back! Read more
