Sorely disappointed. We've tried several times to get reservations, but always missed out. So today, after perhaps too much... mental anticipation, we ate our first Kyoto meal. Granted, I have high expectations about Japanese food. But this wouldn't passas good Japanese food. So bummed, as I hoped it could become our go-to. You can get better-executed, more authentic Japanesefood in other places around the valley. And without reservations hassle. Server Sean was fantastic. A+ for him, personally. Andthe ambiance is fun. So check it out for yourself. You might like it better. I hope so. And I hope Kyoto well. Read more

We went for a birthday dinner and tried a bunch of things on the menu, some nigiri, tekka maki, kappa maki, negihama, agedashi... tofu, sipder roll, miso soup, cucumber salad, salmon and roe bowl, and tempura veggies. All the food was good, though the nigirifelt a bit old. Read more

This was first time going...we were seated right away and Ping, the waitresses quickly makes you feel at home..could tell when... struggling to decide what to order and helped make suggestions to help get what was desired... The restaurant is nice with aJapanese feel and the food was exquisite. Sashimi 16 piece was fresh and great textures with a very well thought outarrangement. Teriyaki tenderloin dell apart in your mouth and the beef sukiyaki had a wonderful mix of flavors. I don't oftensplurge for desert but the food was delicious so I had to try the fruit tart and mango ice cream...it left me bursting at theseams because the bold flavor kept me going for another bite.. Definitely recommend this location for a peaceful delicious meal. Read more

The atmosphere is really what sets Kyoto apart. The inside is adorably traditional and I loved the wait staff wearing casual... yukata! Next time I would love to get a booth where you can kneel if you wish, which is an awesome custom you don't often see inthe West. As for the sushi, you can taste the difference between fresh fish and not-so-fresh, and nothing was overly "fishy" orunpleasantly soft at Kyoto, indicating high-quality fish and attention to detail. The flavors are crisp, distinct, and sometimeswork together very unexpectedly, all making for a lovely meal. Read more

This is the same classic Kyoto that we’ve enjoyed for now decades. The menu and prices are the same. The food looks nearly the... same. Unfortunately the taste wasn’t as precise as before. They do the little things that let you know it’s definitely legitJapanese. For example they serve the sushi with the sushi soy sauce, even though there’s already the kikoman traditional stuffon the table (which is saltier). This time, we noticed that the sushi chefs are no longer natives. The waitresses wouldn’trespond in Japanese so that was weird. We got nabeyaki udon (a little salty), chirasi zushi and agedashi tofu appetizer. Thefish in the chirashi was great. But the sushi rice was off. Rather than a lightly sour and sweet, it was a little bitter andoverpowering. Also a little chunky in texture. Really not good tasting. Quality of the food seemed good but the preparationwasn’t quite right. The restaurant is still totally full of people and we couldn’t get in until 8:45 pm. It’s still one ofthe best Japanese places in town. It’s just not up to the quality that we’ve come to expect from them. Read more
