Friends took me to this restaurant. Best way to describe it is a standard greasy spoon restaurant.. so you know its going to be... DELICIOUS and might be worth the heart attack afterwards. The people are very friendly here. It did seem to take a while for us to get our food and all. The drinks were HUGE ( I forgot... to take a picture) they do offer a free first refill but if I'm being honest I think the one should be enough. Either way thefood was good. It was on a Saturday, around 8:00 pm, we were glad that they have plenty of parking spaces and there wasn't a waiting... list. This was our first visit to Good Time Charlie's, we went to try the Chicken Fried Steak. It was very good, especiallywith the gravy on top, the mash potatoes and green beans were also good. Are you looking for a great rustic atmosphere? Better than average food? For a reasonable price Good Time Charlies is the... place to be!!! The best onion rings, homemade!!! Ordered the 10oz burger medium well was a little dry and they forgot to putcheese on it. But were willing to bring me a slice. They serve the tea, soda, and water in foam cups fyi. Short wait on a busy Friday afternoon, but I was seated quickly and waitress appeared ready to take drink orders shortly after.... Had to try the chicken fried steak and what can I say, it was better than good, but not great. While the gravy was probably thebest (and closest to the yellow gravy I've been seeking) I've had in years, the breading was falling off the steak and was alittle on the greasy side. Would've liked a tighter breading. I thought maybe it was gravy on top, but my mom was having biggerissues with crust separation than I was, even with gravy on the side. Steak was tender and good thickness along w flavor! Greenbeans were delicious and potatoes just a'ight.. need to come back with bigger appetite and more people to tackle the monstrousorder of onion rings I saw ordered at other tables. This is a very charming spot. Plenty of locals, so if you're a tourist and want to see San Antonio at it's truest nature, this... is a great place to visit. The menu has a variety of options. I picked fish. They cooked it well; it tasted great. I would'velike more vegetable options, but, on that day, the meal was sufficient for me. The red blend wine is tasty, good quality, andaffordable. They were ok. The workers were nice and food didn't take too long. My cheeseburger was average. Cheese was too thick for my... taste and cold, to each their own though. I liked the popper appetizers better then the burger. My companion liked his chickenfried steak. He said it was cooked just right and mash potatoes weren't dry. Read more
