This local institution seems to be a local favorites! We were greeted by a friendly staff and our waiter Leo was really nice! We... did enjoy a nice breakfast and had a chance to look around this historical building too. My seasonal pumpkin cheesecake wasreally good, dense and packed with flavors but surprisingly not overly sweet! I also learned that root beer is not actual beer,so I ended up drinking soda for breakfast but was an interesting choice! Read more

We tried this place for Lunch while in the area, we were greeted right away and seated immediately. Our server quickly got our... drink order and then our food order. I ordered Octoberfest Sampler which was fantastic, my partner ordered the Chicken anddumplings which were delicious. Our server Amanda was excellent. We enjoyed the in house made root beer. The restaurant wasclean as were the restrooms, cannot wait to go back and try the breakfast. Read more

We were looking for a breakfast place with walking distance of our hotel and this was at the top of the list. We arrived 30... minutes after opening and were seated immediately. Amanda was our server and she was prompt and very attentive. She helped mecustomize my plate since I was having difficulty choosing what to order. The coffee was fresh and the food delicious! Highlyrecommend. Read more

Excellent casual diner food for breakfast, with great service! Couldn?t ask for more. This is a historic location in San... Antonio, and the interior keeps true to its rustic western heritage. The portions are large and the food is tasty. I prefer thishomemade style any day over some large chain commercialized place. My server said it was her first day, but she was veryattentive and helpful! The other servers stopped by to check on things as well. Read more

This was a fun place to eat. It is the oldest restaurant in San Antonio and had a warm atmosphere. Our server was very... friendly and conversational. They have yummy root beer, sausages and chicken and biscuits. We also liked their club sandwich. It is a great location to the Alamo and river walk. Read more

This restaurant kept coming up in my searches for "Must Visit Restaurants in San Antonio". Unfortunately, we just were not... impressed. We waited 30 minutes to be seated on a Monday around noon. It took our server quite some time to make her way to ourtable once seated. We got the deviled eggs as an app(that came after our meals were served...) and they lacked flavor. Myhusband and daughter had sausages that they thought were decent but the fries were severely undercooked. I had the reuben whichwas good but kind of small for the price. Our service was definitely lacking with no drink refills and no one ever checking onus after our food was delivered despite one of the sausages being wrong. My daughter just ate it anyway as we were tired ofwaiting. I do want to say that we did speak with a manager who was very apologetic, comped our meal and even gave us a slice ofcheesecake for dessert. Excellent customer service from her! Hence the 4 stars instead of the 3 I would have given. Read more

We?ve tried both breakfast and lunch items on the menu, and we don?t think we?ll be back honestly. It?s great that it?s a... landmark, but the food isn?t much to rave about really. My husband got the Sweet Cream Pancakes with an egg and bacon. He saidhe liked it, just a classic pancake meal. I got the Chicken & Biscuits only because it was the only thing that stood out to me.The biscuits were moist, thankfully. I added a side of hash browns which were nothing special. The gravy had a nice peppery kickto it but was really salty, every bite I took I had to follow it with a sip of my drink. The chicken cutlet itself was not good.It was dry, even with the gravy I did not like it. The pretzels were a hard pass, they were pretty stale and a little hard tochew and the beer cheese wasn?t too special either. A little too thick for our liking. My husband got a bacon cheeseburger, andhe just said it was a basic burger. Nothing to rave about. I got the coveted Reuben, and it was pretty good. I can see why it?sa favorite. I?d like to add that the root beer is delicious. Read more

Really good overall. Came here as it was close to our hotel to discover that its truly a gem of a spot. Enjoyed some biscuit... and gravy with fried chicken. Everyone else also had a great plate of food that can be summed up as yummy. Didn't get theroot beer but not regretting as many said its really good there. Read more
