We came by here thinking we could watch the end of the Padres game and enjoy some lunch. When we arrived we quickly realized... there were no TVs. Oh well! The setting and food was great, the service was so-so and the prices were a what we'd expect for thefood, but the lemonade and iced tea seemed a bit on the high side. My wife shared the Patty Melt with my youngest and upgradedfrom the house chips to French fries ($2 add on) and they both liked the sandwich and fries. My daughter ordered the BLTA withthe house chips and she liked them both. I ordered the Encontro burger and it was good, but not great -- I'd say a charburgerfrom The Habit is 1/3 the cost and tastes better. I opted for the salad instead of chips and it was just a bunch of arugula with4 cherry tomatoes, some pickled onion and a small bit of dressing. Overall it is a nice place to eat in North Park. But whenyou read Gastropub don't think it's a sports bar. The food is good, but in my opinion you are paying for the location more thanthe quality of the food. Read more

Great place for dinner! We were two people and got three apps and it was enough for us! The corn dogs, ahi tuna tacos and pork... sliders are delicious! They also have an a great drink menu with a section for sours and ciders which I was impressed with! Read more

Happy Hour is 5 stars for a Great beer and wine selection, no hard alcohol on the menu. That was okay with me but some may not... prefer that selection. Elote fries were killer, great flavor and crisp fries! Tuna tostaditos with seaweed on top was thewinner for me, they have these in mini tacos on the menu as well! Read more

Amazing meal and exceptional service! The owner came out and personally welcomed us and recommended the fresh bread, which was... warm and delicious! The chicken and waffles were perfect. Chicken was crispy and spicy and the waffles were hot and buttery!Definitely one to experience! Read more

Fairly unsatisfactory. You?d expect a restaurant to put out a decent burger. Especially considering the prices. $20 for a burger... and fries. (Fries are a $3 upgrade) I got cold fries and very dry room temp not warm bun. The Cardiff crack that they touteddidn?t taste anything like going to Seaside market and getting the actual Cardiff crack. The environment was good though andit?s certainly nice place. The waiter provided okay service, though I didn?t have a chance to complain as it took a littlesecond for him to come back around and I was already way too hungry to wait or approach the waiter in the restaurant. All inall, certainly not worth the price if this is the sort of food they put out. This was my second time here. The first was a fewyears ago and honestly not memorable. It was only until we sat down that I remembered coming here before. Read more

This is one of my daughter's favorite places to dine. She especially loves the truffle tots. The menu is diverse, and the food... is very good. The chicken and savory waffles are unique and flavorful, my guest ate everything but the bare bones! They alsohave out door seating with heaters which we greatly appreciate. It would be great to see some type of glazed crispy pork bellyon a stick here, as I think it would compliment their flavor profiles. We will return for sure. Read more

Love this cute spot right on University...has an indoor/outdoor feel with bar style seating at the big windows. The good is... great...their salads are incredible. I also had the lamb burger and it was delicious. I have to give a shout out to Jen, ourserver on both occasions. She was bubbly, sweet and very attentive. The second time we visited (twice in 2 days) was a lotbecause of her. Anyway, don't miss out this place is great Read more

This place was absolutely amazing! The service was nothing short of perfect; we were sitter quickly and our order was taken... quickly, our server was also friendly, helpful, and patient when we weren't sure what we wanted. The ambience inside is low-keyand intimate with vibrantly colored plants and a view of the kitchen from the inside dining area. This place truly exemplifiesthe vibe of the area. Now for the good stuff, the food: We had crispy fried green beans, warm house bread, a bottle Coke, andpeach tea to start. The green beans were light and crispy and the sauce they came with tasted amazing. The bread was like alittle warm cloud served on a board. It was obviously served right when it was done and the difference was clear, this bread wasdelicious! For our main entrees we had the Cardiff crack burger with truffle fries and the Encontro burger with chips. One biteof the Cardiff crack burger and it's clear it really lives up to the name. The meat was juicy, tender, and endlessly flavorful. This was easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. The Encontro burger was also amazing, the sauce was perfectly balancesand the brioche bun was airy and delicious. The meat on this burger was also cooked perfectly and oh so juicy! To finish offthe night we enjoyed the butte cake--this thing was no joke! We ordered it after it was highly recommended by our server and itwas served so aesthetically with delicious fruit puree adorning the plate. The cake itself was rich and sweet. The ice cream ontop was the perfect compliment and it was a perfect end to a great night at Encontro! I recommend this place to anyone lookingfor something delicious and the variety to choose from.
