We came here for my moms birthday and I think this is one of the best birthday dinners we have had within my family in terms of... service and speed. The service was so personable and lovely, the food was fresh, and the ambiance was great. I would highlyrecommend coming here for special occasions. One thing I would say is that I do wish it was just a tad bit brighter in there, itwas hard to see what we were eating at some points. Read more

I feel like eating out is now my full-time job. I mean, if you include documenting restaurant experiences, plus creating content... and reviewing, dining out does take up the majority of my fun-employed days. I’ve been blessed to have a great network offriends to fuel this newfound “job.” Job is in quotes because I haven’t figured out how to sustainably make money out ofthis. I digress. My last week was a blur of food, but AltoVino stood out for their incredibly satisfying and comfortingCalifornian spin on Italian classics. Located in Nob Hill, AltoVino is owned by the husband and wife team of Chef Nick Kelly andSommelier Calli Martinez. The cozy neighborhood spot features a modern menu of fresh pasta, highly local meats and produce, andantipasti. The wine selection is thoughtfully curated as well, with imported Italian wines. I was in carb heaven from the startwith the appetizers - prosciutto and fig with gnocco fritto, and mushroom mousse with grilled Acme bread. It took great selfrestraint to save space for the mains. The fresh caramelle pasta was a highlight with local K&J figs, goat cheese, and balsamicvinegar. I loved the texture contrast and chew of the candy wrapper pasta shape. I also inhaled the tender roasted black cod, presented table-side in the salt shell, and featuring late summer squash and cherry tomatoes Service was lovely, and theambience was perfect for both a relaxing evening with friends or a romantic date. AltoVino manages to accomplish that cozyneighborhood feel, while being a spot worth traveling across town for. Read more

Cute place with delicious Italian food and great service. The service was great, the pappardelle was to die for, the steak was... good too. They have a good selection of vines as well. The service was great, they were very attentive. While pappardelle wasthe star of the night, the complimentary bread could have been better. And the seasoning on the barrow was overpowering. Excellent food and bottles of wine. “Terrible terrible oh my god just let me eat in silence please” music. The delicious... house made pasta does not pair well with music that reminds me of shopping at Macys. Read more

It was ok. Food was pretty good (especially the tagliatelle) but prices more than compensated for the quality at around $200 for... two while splitting a single entree/desert. Service was poor, went over 30 min with empty water glasses and very odd timing ofdishes - appetizer with a pasta dish together 10 min after ordering, followed by 30 minutes for the next pasta dish, and thenanother 20-30 minutes for the entree. Waiter/manager fought with me multiple times about being overcharged on wine until theyfinally agreed I was being billed for a different (and more expensive) wine than what was ordered/received. Glad we tried it,but don’t have a reason to come back. Read more

WOW WOW WOW ???? The perfect dinner! AUTHENTIC ITALIAN. I came here with my husband for New Year and it was amazing. First of... all when I booked the table I mentioned that I'm vegan (my husband not) and upon arriving they already knew. Also we mentionedthat we love to sit close to each other and arranged that as well. Food is perfection, seriously. The quality, the taste, thepresentation, all on point. Great list of Italian wines as well. Philip was at our service that night, and he was polite andwelcoming. Talking about price, that was unexpectedly cheaper than what we were ready to pay. Take your lovingwife/husband/fiance/mom/sister/friends here and you will make their night ! Read more

Absolutely delicious food! Massimo described each of the items on the menu so well and gave us some suggestions. All of them... were tasty. We got the Spuma Di Funghi, Summer Melons, Spaghettoni, Cavatelli, Pistachio gelato and chocolate flan. Samarsuggested the perfect wine pairings for the appetizers and the pasta. Thank you for an amazing meal! Read more
