Update: So went again, food was a bit better this time, sides still great, scallops great. What I don?t understand is how they... consistently overcook their lobster into such a dry rubbery mess. Sigh? service is still good though and so are drinks so if thecompany is paying I?ll still go, but I don?t think I?d ever choose to spend my own money here. Original Review: Oh boy thisplace is expeennnsiiivvee. But all the food is also quite good. Service was exceptional, the cocktails reasonably priced andtasty. Sides are also pretty good for family style. I'm taking a star off because for a steakhouse with this ambiance, pricing, and service, not having every steak be Prime or better is preposterous. You should *NOT* be serving choice ribeyes for $70 withno sides. Read more

We went here to celebrate our anniversary. Our server was attentive and helpful. The Beet Salad looked like a work of art and... was delicious. We ordered the Burger and Lobster Tail Gnocchi. Four stars because although the food was tasty and our server wasfantastic, it felt overpriced. Read more

Great spot in downtown slo. Staff were very helpful. Food was excellent. Get an early reservation and then hit the palm theater... for a movie. Update: went back again last night and the food is still great and drinks are fantastic. They seem to update themenus with regularity, new dishes seems to pop up with the seasons but they still kept a few favs on the menu. Read more

Our waiter Marcus was absolutely wonderful! He made great suggestions and the whole staff generally provided phenomenal... service. Everyone was very warm and attentive. The food was impeccable. Generous portions and beautiful plating. The Yukonpotatoes are otherworldly and the chicken (which Marcus suggested) was incredibly juicy and flavorful. For the top quality mealand service, I was shocked at how reasonable the bill was. We will certainly be coming back :) Read more

I went here a few months ago and it was amazing so I decided I would come back for New Year's and we were severely underwhelmed.... I will say though it would be worth it just to have the tuna tartare it's the best thing on their menu and since it's raw theyknow how to make it. It's by far their best dish and I actually would give the dish itself four stars but for the experiencethat we had and the food itself I think that the restaurant itself as well as the steep price deserves one star review. I thinkthat we should start by when we were seated we were outside with heaters in the ceiling that were so high up that they wereinadequate to heat either of us considering one of us was right underneath it. We were poured still water, but we noticed thatwhen the table seated next to us was sat they were offered a choice of still or sparkling and given that choice I would havedefinitely gone with the sparkling. The bone marrow tater tots do not have any type of bone marrow taste to them and they arequite bland The horseradish sauce is nice but the dish itself doesn't pair well considering that bone marrow is a key element onthe dish and yet absent. The tuna tartare was amazing, the only good dish there in my opinion and then on to dinner, the Kobeflat iron steak was interesting because I like to have my steak medium rare and I was going to ask for it medium rare but theserver recommended it to be medium because of the supposed marbeling in the steak which I couldn't find. When the steak arrivedmy partner's steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and mine was raw which was very surprising considering it was supposed to bemedium and mine was so chewy it was inedible and a very tough situation to try to chew through. The dinner sides that we hadwhere the mac and cheese and the lobster risotto which I also do not recommend, they sauce on the mac and cheese was very thinand watery and bland as well as the lobster risotto which was well salted but did not have an taste Read more

When I go to steak houses I have pretty set expectations: great food, nothing terribly inventive. And Ox + Anchor doesn't... disappoint! The food was fantastic. We had the goat cheese croquettes and crab cake, as well as hanger and flat iron steaks witha side of potatoes. The crab cake: the crab cake itself ranks as one of the best I've ever had. I probably would have preferreda different sauce, but execution was dead on. Absolutely loved it! Goat cheese croquettes: very nice. Not as good as the crabcake, but it's fried cheese and honey...can you really go wrong? Hanger steak (med rare)/flat iron (med): excellent. Perfectlyseasoned, perfectly cooked. Exactly what I'd expect for a restaurant of this caliber. Incidentally, I preferred my wife's flatiron steak to my hanger (a typical favorite cut of mine). If you happen to be on the fence between the two I would reallyrecommend the flat iron! Potatoes: very standard. Very delicious, but very standard. If you want potato with your steak youreally can't go wrong. Cocktails: I don't remember offhand which cocktails we had, but they were pretty well made. I wouldrecommend a wine over cocktails, but if you're burned out on wine tastings like we were they definitely have a few worth givinga try! Overall, I don't know if I'll ever have the opportunity to return to Ox + Anchor, but if I find myself back in the areaI will definitely stop in for a meal! Read more
