Service not great at all, actually just "Bad" you have to get the waitresses attention because she does not check with you and... ask "How is everything, do you want any water or extra butter". Terrible slow. I ordered a Friday fish special (All you can eat)now being that this waitress had 5 tables and not even busy and not asking your customer "Alright how bout some more fried fish"? It was ridiculous so I had to get her attention then wait 20 minutes for the extra helping is just rude and a waste of time. The steamed veggies Very Not Cooked at all really Raw practically hard and Uncooked. Overall I won't be back. For a waitressthat has 5 tables which is average or low for the customer to have to flag her down for services *Three times* and she neverever checked in with me is just terrible ???? I was a waiter as a young man and checking in with your tables is Litterly themost important aspect of good service. Even if the food is below expectations the waiter or waitress can make a bad meal goodbased on his or her caring about the customer. It is this factor that kept me as a waiter throughout my college years and I madesome damn good tips. Maybe today service is lost on this generation and it's such a shame and loss of tips as well. I gave mywaitress $0.00 to show her that her service was truly the worst I have truly ever had. Honestly I'm speaking from the ?? she wasjust the worst and needs to change her occupation or get an entire training makeover. Read more

This was my first experience at a Black Bear Diner. I went to the location at corner of Bristol and MacArthur in Santa Ana.... Parking can be tight but you can utilize the additional parking for the shopping center. The entrance is facing off Bristolstreet not off of MacArthur. The restaurant looks like a nice cabin in the woods with statues outside the door that resembleswooden carved statues of bear cubs. The inside of this adorable restaurant is decorated in log cabin and bear theme. Uponentering you'll be greeted by a cheerful rep who will take your name and get your party seated. They had a lovely back roomwith amazing decorations that we were seated in. The Waite staff was very attentive and seemed to enjoy their job. I felt likethey were happy we choose to dine with them. That goes a long way in my book. I ordered the Pancake Volcano $13 which came with2 eggs, 3 sweet cream Pancakes, two sausage links, and 2 thick premium pieces of bacon. The Pancakes were huge and thick. Wellmade though. They are a bit sweeter than other Pancakes from other restaurants. Think.. IHOP bit sweeter. The bacon like Imentioned earlier was premium. Not burnt but crispy around edges to perfection. The sausages were delicious and well grilled. Iusually don't eat the sausage from restaurants because it's not appealing to my taste, but I ate both of these. Very good. Theeggs were made exactly as I ordered them. It's amazing how many restaurants get eggs wrong when a customer orders. These wereperfect. I asked for extra butter and syrup, I always ask for extra butter and syrup. This time I didn't need the extra syrupbut I did use the butter. Oh, and the syrup is warmed. Attention to detail. When asking for extra napkins and butter, theserver was quick to bring them. My wife got the Club Sandwich and hashbrowns. The sandwich was well made. Fresh tasting. Thehashbrowns were exactly how I crave them, crispy on the outside easy to break the shaved potatoes. When we were Read more

I have always liked Black Bear Diner. They have good quality food, and the service is good. I went there yesterday for a... veterans day deal, expecting your run of the mill offering. Some scaled down version of regular entree's like most restaurantsdo (still very much appreciated). Not the case here. They give you any choosing of their two-egg combos. I had the chicken friedsteak with two over easy eggs, potatoes, and a side of B&G! Wow, thank you for supporting veterans! Much appreciated! Read more

Giant platters of food. The tri-tip is so-so, but the fried chicken is excellent. They have pretty good country gravy, as well... as decent cornbread. I recall their breakfasts being pretty good when I've had them in the past. I will return! Read more

Immediately upon entering, I was welcomed with a friendly smile from the hostess. The menu had enough items for someone like me... who has a restricted diet. The restaurant was clean and relaxing. My meal was cooked very healthy and displayed very nicely onthe plate. I was a solo diner and they had plenty of space at the counter for me. My water glass was constantly filled. Theservers were very nice and checked on me often. I hope management shows their appreciation for their workers because I can tellthat they worked very hard and were very proud to be serving as customers. Read more
