What an unexpected treat on State St! This place totally satisfied my craving for good southern food. I had the fried chicken,... mac & cheese, and collard greens. The chicken is made to order and OH SO worth it-honestly it was better than the fried chickenI tried in North Carolina (but to be fair I don\'t think NC is particularly known for fried chicken). The skin was super crispywithout being burned and the chicken was perfectly cooked & juicy. Plus the sides were just what I was looking for. Everythingwas so good I wanted to finish it all, but I still ended up with some leftovers to enjoy later. I\'m excited to go back to trymore of their menu, but it\'ll be hard to not just order the same thing again! Read more

Lower State Street has some of our best restaurants, and this is no exception!\nThe staff are awesome, they are presently... redoing the place so it\'s hard to judge the atmosphere, however there was a blues band playing and they rocked! Really goodmusic to go along with my delicious food. My fish po boy was delish! The collard greens just delightful and the fried chicken ishard to beat!\nAnd their in-house made hot sauce is to live for! It is an equal opportunity burner.\nI am so going back. Read more

Thank you to the owners @SoulBites for the warm welcome and excellent customer service. I drove from L.A. to Santa Barbara for... my birthday weekend and quickly realized that everything closes early about 10pm or earlier. I looked on Google maps and foundSoul Bites, they stay open until about 2am. Thank goodness because I was seriously hungry. I ordered the shrimp & grits, honeyfried chicken, banana pudding and 2 of their Hibiscus Lemonade which is soooo delicious! DON\'T SLEEP ON SOUL BITES! Hospitalityand a warm welcome means everything when you are traveling. I will definitely visit them again when I\'m in SB. Read more

My Husband and I happen to drive by and see this place and was like “Let’s check them out”\n\nWe were greeted by the... lovely Chef Rose and her husband Stirling. At first glance we thought they were closed and under construction, but they werevery open and seated us out on their patio.\n\nI encourage everyone to give Soul Bites a try! My favorite is their signatureHibiscus Lemonade and the Black Eyed Peas. My husband loved their fresh fried Maple brine fried chicken, we go thighs andbreasts and it was sooo flavorful and juicy, and cooked all the way through.\n\nI can’t wait to visit again and try more itemson their menu.\n\nThank you Chef Rose and Mr. Stirling and Lil. RJ for being so kind and serving my husband and I. May God Blessyou and your amazing Business ???????????? Read more

Not kidding, best fish and chips I’ve had. It’s not your traditional like British deal that is everywhere, tasteless,... boring. It’s much much better. Corn meal breading, the fish is flavorful and just the right subtle amount of heat and spice. Iasked what they use and they make some house made vinegar salt. Good, man. The chips are huge. No vinegar necessary. Read more

Soul food here is a little dressed up. The fried chicken is juicy with a crispy skin and delicious batter. Collared greens are... delicious with no bitterness. I added the turkey shreds and they were good. Mac n cheese is super good. The owner mentionedthere are 5 cheeses in there. I’m lactose intolerant, but it was well worth it. I will say prices are different than whatyou’ll find at fast food fried chicken places or even some restaurants in LA, however, you’re really paying for qualityingredients and thoughtful cooking. I’m thrilled to have soul food in SB and to pay for such delightful cooking.\n\nI can’twait for their indoor seating area to open. Read more
