I went with a small party of four. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the octopus appetizer, and the service was... great. Our waitress was extremely friendly and even ordered our table an extra complimentary dessert because it was someone'sbirthday. Every one at the table ordered the wagyu and each one was perfectly cooked. The desserts we tried (tiramisu, chocolatepeanut butter pie, baked Alaska pie) were all a bit too sweet for my taste, but everyone else loved them. I'll have to try thedrinks next time! As a word of caution, it does get pretty loud in there, but they had several large parties on the night wewent so it's probably much quieter on a normal night. It didn't bother my boyfriend and I, but it was hard to hear. All in all, great experience and will return in the future for cocktails and appetizers. Read more

Our meal was delicious, started with the lobster dumplings….the sauce for it is delicious and spicy, very good. We also... ordered the Duck Cordon Bleu and my BF ordered the Dry-Aged Kansas City Strip Steak as our main with the potato onionsoup…which is mashed potatoes with caramelized onions. We both enjoyed our meals very much. Everything tasted delicious andwe definitely come back. Read more

Many of the menu items at Salt & Char are the restaurant's take on "classics". However, the changes are certainly not... improvements. First the positive. The ambiance at the restaurant was nice. Our server was nice though seemed that he was tryingto be one of those memorable servers and falling short of that mark considerably... The bread that they ship in was amazing andthe coarse salted butter was a nice touch. The asparagus was delicious. The drinks were decent and the espresso martini wasvery good. Now the negative. Let me first state that we were one of the first reservations in for the evening so the restaurantwas NOT CROWDED. We ordered one of the more expensive dishes in the menu, the aged porterhouse for 2. I ordered it medium rare. When the steak came out after a very long time it was very over cooked. A 30+ ounce aged porterhouse that is your specialtyshould come out perfect EVERY TIME. At best this steak was medium well, more like well done with a bit of pink by the bone inthe inside. The server dropped off the plate and gave a few comments on how he hoped we would enjoy our meal and went to leave.I caught him and refused the steak. There is no way I'm paying over $100 for a massively overcooked steak. They remade the steakand after a long wait AGAIN put an appropriately cooked streak in front of us. The steak was ok. Flavor was decent but the steakwas NOT trimmed well and had a few lines of gristle running through it. I can certainly do BETTER at home even with grocerystore meat. 1/5 As to the other parts of the meal... Wedge salad was a "deconstructed wedge salad" with a pile of mostly limpradicchio that was very bitter. The bacon in the salad was the only bright point, I did not eat the salad. 1/5 Onion souppotato gratin was a pureed potato that was very under salted, the onions on top were flavorful and perhaps meant to balance outthe rest? But the whole dish was luke warm at best. 2/5 The fried rice dish had some nice mushrooms i Read more

The service was great. The oysters were also great. Our calamari was so salty it was inedible. The fried rice side was... completely burnt. We could not taste anything outside of the burned taste. My wife's filet was decent. My NY strip was terrible. There were several silver skin pieces running through it. Almost seemed like a sirloin cut rather than strip. Will not return. Read more

After an evening walk exploring downtown Saratoga. We decided to finish off our food experience eating dessert at Salt and... Char. We had a tough time picking the dessert and we finally narrowed it down to Samoa cheesecake or chocolate crème Brulee. We ended up going with the latter and we weren't disappointed. The dessert had the right amount of sweetness, crunch and texturethat just melted in your mouth. The place was packed, has great ambience, and has outdoor seating. I would have chosen outdoor, but with the restaurant about to close we settled down inside. Read more

Absolutely recommend Salt & Char for their great service and flavorful dishes. Coming from Los Angeles to NY this place set a... great example of Saratoga dining. Their food and drink prices are SPOT ON...atmosphere is great as I was seated in front oftheir fireplace. My opinion, anyone giving Salt & Char a bad review may feel better seated at their local Applebee's. Read more

Salt and Char is a beautiful restaurant in a fantastic location, but I've eaten here four times and the food and service is... uncharacteristically inconsistent for a restaurant of this caliber. I had dinner here last week, and pictured below is my 12ounce filet cooked medium. The steak lacked flavor, even for a filet, and the service was mediocre at best. Read more
