This was my first time at the Village Tavern and it lived up to my expectations. I had the fish fry which came with cole slaw,... fries, soup and hush puppies. But the fish is centerpiece and it does not disappoint. Thick pieces with thin and crunchybreading made for some of the best fish and chips I have had in the Chicago area. Worst experience I?ve ever had at a restaurant. Everything that was brought to my table was wrong. And it took my waitress 5-10... minutes to check on us each time. We order a appetizer platter and she brought us chicken tenders and when we said we didn?torder she was like no you did order it and was fighting on taking it back. I ordered a specialty margarita and I got a regularwhich whatever I drank it, it?s a margarita either ways. Our dinners came with a soup or salad and for some reason we gotcharged for it on our bill. We also had to send back one of our dinners because it came back medium rare when we specificallyasked for medium well. The waitress did not apologize once. When we got the bill I noticed the chicken tenders were not off thebill and there was an up charge for our sides that state on the menu that come with the meal. Also a specialty margarita chargetoo. I have no problem paying for what I ordered and I?m not complaining about that but not taking off the mistake the waitressmade and expecting me to pay for those is not okay. Came here with a party of 3 and we watched the NBA Finals here. Really nice bar to go to for some drinks and quick bites as you... watch any of the TVs they have placed around the room. Staff was really nice and cheered with us at the very end of the night.You can download an app to queue songs into the mixer which was really fun to mess around with. I have been to the village many times. Went here on a date night because we were craving chicken tenders. For the most part our... night was good however once we paid the bill not 5 minutes later our server came and kicked us out of our table. She claimed sheneeded the table however we weren't even there an hour and there was no wait when we left. It's extremely unprofessional anddown right rude to kick people out of their table just so you get more tips. I tried sending a message to the village but theyhaven't responded. Good food! I came with my extended family so in total it was about 18 of us. I was happy, although the service left a little... more to be desired. I think the issue was just because of how loud the music inside was. Otherwise, it was nice to eat dinnerthere. Read more
My husband and I went here last Thursday. They were very busy, but our host immediately sat us and took our food order. Great.... Food came fast. Chicken was great. We would?ve liked to order additional drinks/beer but we didn?t since we didn?t have awaitress. We ate and left. We did have to chase someone down for boxes/check. The waitress that was supposed to be waiting onour table came to check on us once we were done eating and had already asked someone else for our check, but had checked onother tables multiple times. Came here on a recommendation from a friend who lives in the neighborhood and glad we decided to try it. It is definitely a... local place, but felt very welcome and comfortable. They have bar and table seating available. It is a great place to watch agame too as they have TV?s all over. In regards to the pandemic, mask are required to enter, all staff had on mask, socialdistancing was in place and each table had hand sanitizer available. Also, during our visit we did see them disinfectant atable. For food, they are known for their chicken fingers, but each dish we had was good. The chicken tenders were batteredlight, fluffy and buttery and their honey mustard was delicious. They do have different sauces available, but our friendrecommended their honey mustard. We shared this as an appetizer, the dish is 6 pieces. For entrees, my boyfriend ordered theirfull slab of ribs which was a special (on a Saturday). I am personally not a rib person, but these were so good! I actuallyrecommend these over the chicken fingers to be honest. They were cooked perfectly! Charred outside and so soft it came off thebone. I would have preferred more barbecue sauce, but I don?t mind to get a little messy. The ribs came with a choice of soup orsalad and we tried their chicken and rice soup which was a broth and this was so good too! We weren?t sure what to expect sincewe are use to creamy rice chicken soup. I ordered a BLT sandwich which was tasty. I know super basic just a BLT, but they do notskimp on the bacon and the bacon was cooked perfectly and had flavor. Our waitress was so great! She was very friendly and keptchecking on us. She was on top of our refills and before we received the ribs, she brought us a basket for the bones, extranapkins, and wet wipes.
