This has been an ongoing problem with RED PEPPER. We have been going to this place since it opened. The problem is their lack... of knowledge of food safety. They habitually put out raw chicken (Tandoori). This has happened the last 8+ times we have gonethere for lunch. I tell the manager and he says "ok". They never remove the chicken that was put out and just leave it for thenext potential customer. For a buffet , they are SLOW to replenish the food that is already out. You have to TELL THEM thatthey are out of an item. Service is always decent and your water glass never goes empty. Today, I believe the owner was thereand I had the privilege of showing him the raw chicken his restaurant is serving and told him that this was not a isolatedincident. I told him that this negligence can result in someone getting very sick (I speak from experience). It could alsoresult in a fine with the board of health. He just said that he would tell them, took my plate and left. He and the managernever came out of the kitchen. We have been going to this place since it opened....and told that to the owner. I also told himthat his restaurant is not the only Indian restaurant in the area and we would not be coming back again. He did not seem fazedor really cared. It is sad that yet another vacant storefront will be decorating Rt 22 in Scotch Plains. Nearly $39.+ tip andbarely ate anything. I guess its money well spent to just get that final F-IT attitude. If the manager and owner do not carethat their cooking practices are potentially dangerous to their customers health, then we do not care to take a risk for foodpoisoning or worse. This restaurant totally surprised me. Tucked away in a plaza I didn?t expect much. The restaurant itself is very clean and... bright. The service was great! The food itself was fresh and delicious. If you are in the area you should stop. The Tikka Masalawas excellent as you can see the plate is cleaned. Read more
Good food, but tiny portions. Lousy customer service. These photos are of $15 entrees. The amount of meat is abysmal...not... even a half a chicken breast swimming in a pint container of sauce. That means you are paying $15 for half a chicken breast! And, one container of rice to split between 4 entrees? At least give us enough rice to eat the rest of the sauce after the meatis gone. While it may taste great, it's not worth the money for the amount of food you are getting. When we called to ask ifthey forgot a dish in the takeout bag, it took multiple people to finally get to someone incredibly condescending and rude, whenwe were just asking a simple question (for the fourth time). Scam Artists. I made a take out order for 2 curries and only received 1 box of rice. I thought it was a mistake and pointed it... out to the manager at the front desk. He mentioned that that is the way it comes. I told him all other Indian places provide 1box per curry and he just said I can buy another for $3. Also, he's a middle-aged North Indian guy who is the manager butpretends that he's not the manager when you ask: "I want to speak to a manager." Also, the chicken tikka box was SMALLER andbarely had any chicken pieces in it. We basically got the scraps left over from the buffet. We wound up cooking rice for mychildren when I arrived home and they had to wait until it was done. Never going to this scam place again. Read more
