If you find yourself at the Canajoharie Exit on the New York Thruway around lunch time, exit and drive south for 15 minutes to... Sharon Springs where you will find the Black Cat Cafe and Bakery. Treat yourself to the daily homemade soup or fresh green saladwith figgy balsamic vinegar and one of the eclectic sandwiches that have been perfected by the owner/host, Tony, over manyyears. The picture shows 1/2 of the Thanksgiving Everyday sandwich to the left and 1/2 of the Reuben sandwich to the right. Theturkey is roasted on site and comes with delicious homemade cranberry sauce and stuffing, and the corned beef is the leanest andmost delicious I've had in a long time. It is also possible to order boxed lunches delivered to the Glimmerglass Theater inCooperstown. We've always enjoyed these meals when attending performances there. The Black Cat was a pleasant surprise. We were in Sharon Springs to do some shopping and the Black Cat was next door to where we... were, so we stopped in for lunch. The decor is tastefully funky. We talked to the owner, who is somewhat of the town historian,and got a pretty expensive history of the area. The menu is small, but there was plenty to choose from. I got the Thanksgivingsandwich, and it was loaded with turkey and stuffing. My wife got a BLT which was great as well. This place is good enough thatit warrants going out of the way to sample their cuisine. We will be back! Read more
Pros..Beautiful atmosphere love the decor and the warmth of this place..the own was so nice he came over to the table and made... small talk with us..i really enjoyed that...cons...I got a freezing cold muffin???????????? it was at least 2 days old but theworst part about this is that they didnt even warm it up before they served it...that has never happened before!
