I've been eating at Van's since I was a kid. It was always a reliable choice for a good burger or bbq. However, it went down... hill for a bit a year or two ago, but thankfully, have seemed to step up their game again. We actually choose to go there fortheir ribs again. Normally good barbeque sandwiches. $7.25 for brisket sandwich. About $4 more if you add fries and a drink. Today (May 22) the... meat tasted like it had been in a cooler and then reheated. Very dry also, I assume from the cooler. I have been going to Van'sfor about 58 years and this is the first bad sandwich I have received. 50 cent charge for water, which is fair. Read more
Would I return? Yes. I was promptly greeted by all the ladies in the kitchen, not just the cashier - nice touch! This was my... first visit. I had a few questions, and my questions were answered to my satisfaction ???? I ordered the Pig Sandwich combo(pulled pork) with (homemade 'n' pleasantly)greasy curly fries. My meal was PROMPTLY brought out to the table. The sandwich wasof an adequate portion. The pork was nice and moist & tender with good smokey hints & flavor (a bit light, though, for mypersonal preference - "your mileage may vary.") The meat itself was luke warm at best - * my reason for docking a ? on thereview. The fries were fantastic! They were pleasantly soft on the inside with a nice crisp on the exterior. Both orders were wrong with brown lettuce, should Of been plain. The carrot cake looks like something they scraped off someone... else?s plate and fries were old and cold. Yuck! Read more
Stopped for supper on I-40 and Van's did not disappoint. Tasty pulled pork (or maybe chopped is a better descriptor) on the pig... sandwich-- I'm used to Arkansas barbecue, so I missed the coleslaw, but I didn't think about ordering it on the side until itwas too late. The "Vanized" potato, a garlicky pit-cooked twice-baked bit of deliciousness, is a must-have side order. I have tosay, I really like the staff here. Read more
My husband & I stopped here for lunch while in Shawnee and boy was it worth it. The food was great and the service was even... better. While we were waiting for our food, the server came to our table and gave us a scratch off card. It is good for a freeside item on our next visit which I promise, will be very soon. Read more
Maybe it's because we went a little over an hour before closing but we were highly disappointed with the food. $100 for 3 people... to eat cold food is not acceptable. I had them put mine in the microwave. The brisket and chicken were really dry ( even beforethe microwave)The fries tasted like they had been sitting around for a while. My husband said the sausage and beans were good.The service was really good. They were very nice and welcoming. Don't think I'd eat here again though. Read more
