This is my first negative review - ever. I was super excited to see a new restaurant in town. My husband and I love to support... small local businesses on Main street in Wakefield. I ordered dinner for my family shortly after New Wave Kitchen opened in thislocation. They were out of several items we had ordered, and they called us after we had ordered to say they were out. It wasweird because it's a minimal menu, and it was early in the evening, but okay, I figured they were just getting started in thisnew location, and it was a learning curve. Tonight we tried it again. This time they had the items that we wanted. My husbandpicked the meals up and brought them home. I discovered that the dish I ordered was very different from what I had expected andunedible for me. The menu has cryptic descriptions of food items. I called the restaurant to talk to them about the confusion.The person who answered the phone was friendly and said if I wanted to come back, I could swap my meal for something else. Ijumped in my car to exchange the dinner and brought it to the guy behind the counter. He said oh, you're the two sweet hotchickens. I said yes, expecting a friendly exchange, and swap out. NOPE, he began to shame me loudly in front of other customersin the restaurant. He stated that I should have known what the meal would be like. Mansplain much, humiliate, and shame a 50+woman much. I have lived on emporium lunches over a decade, so after leaving URI, I really didn't have much desire to go back. But boy, am... I glad I tried this place! The food is farm fresh, high quality, and creative. Knowing what local farms and vendors are beingused makes me feel good about my choices and honestly tastes so much better than the flash frozen fried options I had in myundergrad years. My go-to are the poke bowl, the pork buns, and crispy tofu. I don't have pictures of the second two becausethey immediately got inhaled. ALSO, DOG FRIENDLY AND BYOB?!? YES PLEASE! Read more
Really cool spot! Food was incredible! We ordered the vegan ramen, bean burger, biscuits and gravy, pork belly ramen and killer... tofu - all SUPER flavorful and delicious! The food looked as good as it tasted too, impressive presentations. Cool, relaxedatmosphere and personable staff. Definitely going back, finally something different than every other food joint.
