This is THE spot for the real deal in lobster. We went to Beal's first and left because of the wait (family of 12), and we're... so glad we did. MDI (Mt. Desert Island) is unpretentious, unassuming, and the food and friendliness are the points of emphasis. MDI has its boats docked 100 feet from the kitchen, and when lobster tanks get empty, they walk down to the dock and pull upanother crate bobbing in the Somes Sound saltwater. It's family operated, and you will feel like a part of their family whenyou sit down. Peter and the staff checked in regularly and offered our family pointers on quieter places to enjoy Acadia on thewest side of the island. They also offer barbecued ribs and other meats. It's not much to look at ? picnic tables, umbrellas,lawn overlooking the docks ? but it's exactly the kind of place you want to spend a sunset cracking into the shellfish goodness! You have to eat here! It's a shame more people flock to Bar Harbour and miss a delicious meal from here. I highly recommend the... crab and corn dip. I will be thinking BBQ the next time I'm in Acadia. Read more
Excellent choice to stop for picnic/camping feel dinner. Enjoyed BYOB on picnic tables with top notch food. Pick up your order... at the counter on a picnic tray with utensils, served fresh & hot in to-go type containers (our meals fit in containers withlids, unlike other diners with the full lobster meals).The steamers were delicious, along with the tasty lobster roll withplentiful meat, and the Nashville chicken sandwich was ?bang bang? delicious, as quoted by the one of us who ate that. I evenloved the French fries! Blueberry pie was good. Cole slaw could have passed on - not as soft as I prefer. Staff was friendly,and the area was clean and well kept. Two experiences here! Our favorite restaurant in Southwest Harbor? absolutely 5 stars ?????????? #1, came at 7:10pm for dinner... and they happened to run out of BBQ from dinner rush? no worries, our family each got the fish ?n? chips special and were veryhappy with the food and portions! Enjoyed the beautiful Maine sunset over the water. Owner/manager gentleman came out to checkon us, apologize about bbq sold out, but encouraged us to come back for it the next day! #2, Returned here for BBQ lunch thenext day and we were absolutely delighted. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone delicious, the brisket was tender, the lobster wasfresh, and the sides were all wonderful! All the staff were tremendously courteous and professional both times? this place justknows how to treat customers right Would 100% recommend this place to any visiting family, friends, or anyone reading thisreview! Great seafood and BBQ place right by the water (you can eat in the tent or on the tables near the water). Went with my parents... twice on our last two nights of vacation, it was so good the first night and the owner suggested we come back again for theribs. Over those two nights we ordered the clam chowder, fried shrimp, whole bellied clams, pulled pork, lobster roll, and ribs.Everything was fresh, delicious, and well worth the price. The staff is also incredibly friendly and greeted as soon as wewalked in. The owner even went around to every table to make sure everyone enjoyed their meals. Only issue was the pulled porkwasn't hot the first night and he went back to the kitchen, addressed it immediately, and offered us some commentary BBQ saucebecause my dad had said he enjoyed it so much. If I go back to the Southwest Harbor area again, I will definitely be going back.Could not recommend enough. Read more
