I was staying not far from this restaurant with my son. I was looking for a place that was more of a family style restaurant and... not just a "bar with food." This place didn't disappoint. I wasn't looking for fancy fare, just a clean establishment and tastyfood. We had chicken noodle soup which was great, some cheese quesadillas and burgers cooked to perfection. For dessert weshared the apple crisp a la mode. It seems like such a simple thing, but this version was the best I've had. You wouldn't thinkrestaurants could screw up any of these items, but many have. I definitely had no issues and we were very satisfied. Our serverwas attentive to our needs and whatever she didn't know, she asked and returned quickly with an answer. I was also delighted tohear that they had Franziskaner weissbier on tap, my favorite. The owner told me he orders it and drives to another town to pickup. It was a welcome surprise to find it there. There is a bar section, but it's far enough from the dining area so you won'tfeel like you're dining next to any rowdy drunks, which weren't present in any case. If you're looking for an elite diningexperience with fancy décor, this ain't it. But if you want pretty good food and excellent service, you can't go wrong here. Read more
Out first time there was last summer. Great experience! Huge servings of food. We came back this year, lobster ???? night!... Homemade mash potatoes. LG servings of food again with delicious flavor. Friendly service by Jeremiah and wait staff. They werebusy but made sure to make their rounds too. Loved him being festive with the night! (See pic) food pics bruschetta, crab dipboth BIG appetizers. We ate here this past week, it was very disappointing? I had read so many positive reviews and this place fell short. It?s... always disappointing when you know you can make better food at home. Our party had the ?Specials? homemade chicken tenders withbacon Mac and cheese. The chicken was mostly breading and the chicken was very overcooked. The Mac and cheese had little flavor.The Sea Bass was good but paired oddly with fried rice, a few peppers and no fresh vegetable for a side. The fried rice wasgood. We had to send the soup back because it was cold by the time it reached our table, but it was good. The ribeye steak wasinconsistent in the cooking, extremely rare on one end and over done on the other. I had the feeling it was cooked while it waspartially frozen. The waiter was very nice and tried, and I could tell he felt bad for the quality of the food the place wasputting out. We ended up spending a pretty penny, our dogs enjoyed the leftovers. We really loved this place! We were two weeks into a three week road trip from Houston to Vermont and back and almost literally... stumbled onto this place as we were driving through the Adirondacks. It turned out to be one of the best long shots of ourentire trip. The service here is young, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. The decor is classic and perfect upstate New Yorkbar/restaurant. And the food... the food is truly excellent. We tried several different sandwiches and the most amazing Buffalodrumsticks. Check out the picture - they're full-size drumsticks but fried, sauced, and accompanied by blue cheese, just likeauthentic Buffalo wings. I ordered four and we could have quit there - they were huge and absolutely delicious. But when you seethe pictures of the sandwiches you'll know why we had to keep right on eating. When's the last time you ordered a steak sandwichand they asked you how you wanted it cooked? In a bar and grill? For less than 10 bucks? And it was outstanding? Even the frieswere perfect. We could go on... Bottom line, this is a surprisingly and truly excellent restaurant hiding behind the facade of amodest roadside grill. There's true talent here in the kitchen and it shows on every plate. If we lived anywhere near this placewe would be regulars. Read more
Picked as on our route across the state and a good halfway point. Nice little bar decorated floor to ceiling. The French onion... soup they recommend was honestly a bit mild compared to the intense richness I expect for that dish. The French dip sandwich WASvery good, rich and well cooked meat. A little slow even when it wasn't that busy but very friendly and we weren't in a rush. Read more
