It?s a Thursday, trivia night, NFL season opener, first Penn state home game weekend, and there is only one waitress for a full... house. Not her fault AT ALL, it considering she probably paid mostly tips, and slow service decreases tips, themanagement/ownership here is setting up their own staff for failure. If you can?t staff your bar, it?s no one?s fault but yours. Can?t find workers? You?re not paying enough. End of discussion. Read more

Jax is one of the most underrated bars in State College. The food was excellent. Try the Philly Cheese steak Egg rolls and the... Mushroom Swiss burgers. The bartenders are great! Lowkey and normally not crowded. Read more

Jax is by far the most underrated bar in state college. The managers are very hands on and will serve you drinks directly. The... food is excellent they have a great deal Wednesday's with half off burgers and blue moons, about $10 for 2 beers and a burger, which is a steal for any college kid. On top of that the bartenders make great drinks, and are often deserving of great tips.Very lowkey and normally not crowded. Read more

Tried to go for the advertised Trivia on Tuesdays. Apparently 12 people (minimum of 3 teams) was not good enough for manager so... we were turned down, even after we all agreed we don?t need a prize. Bartender was even going to give us random questions butmanager decided to interrupt that too so don?t get hopes up for trivia. Bartender and bouncer were cool though and good place togo with friends that?s not too packed Read more

Really really good buffalo chicken nachos. Great drink selection. The place was really turned around with the new ownership. We... actually accidentally met the owners during our last visit, and they were the nicest! We, before realizing who we were speakingwith, mentioned not liking one of the food items previously, and our feedback was received with great enthusiasm and concern. One of our new favorite places to watch games now! Covid-19 update: place is excellently handled - very clean, masks enforced. The menu is limited but it pushed us to try new things - the cheese steak was fantastic and I don't even eat them typically.Happy hours and specials still take place unlike in many other bars in the area. Drove downtown tonight to catch up with friends and have a drink at the bar. We were excited to get out after all of the local... businesses being closed for months. Upon arriving, the bouncer went over the rules like masks on when standing, not movingtables/chairs, etc. Pretty easy. After finding one of our friends at a table, we proceeded to stand and chat for about 10minutes (didn't even have a drink yet) while waiting for seats at the bar to clear up. Instead, we were rudely confronted by thesame bouncer (Matt is name I believe?) who said we can not be standing, even with our masks on, and we needed to find a seat. Wecould not find any seats at this point and decided to spend our money on drinks elsewhere. The bouncer proceeded to escort usout, telling us it is our "own fault" for not knowing the rules or being at other bars downtown recently, and also refused togive his name when asked. We always enjoyed Jax to hang out and have some drinks, but will never be back again after thishorrible service experience. Find another bar. Read more

Great place to grab a drink and bite to eat. Food is always good and the craft beers on tap are always rotating around so ask... what's good. Trivia night on Tuesday and Thursday nights are a blast too great to bring a group of friends too. Lots of laughs. Will be back! Read more

I enjoyed my first visit to Jax, and I will be certain to return. We went to watch the away game and there are plenty of tv's... and bar space that make it a good place to do so. They run specials on their Instagram so check that before you go. Everyone whoprovided us service was great. The prices are pretty typical for downtown. The atmosphere is brighter than the Darkhorse, thereis much more bar space, and much of the seating is now high tables. There is no longer a stage/dance floor area, which is nicein that there is more seating in the larger dining area. The food was very good. I had a burger, and it was juicy and perfectlycooked to order. It also came out fast for it being crowded and busy during the game. I look forward to seeing an expanded drinkmenu, which I was told is coming. The bathrooms are exactly the same, so if you need your dose of nostalgia, you know where togo. Read more
