I have always heard great things about Plaid Turnip/Mod Olive. My fiancé and I decided to see what all the hype was about.... Oh.My.Goodness... There was a short wait because the place was packed which is always a great sign! The waiters communicatewell, are hospitable, and have super friendly/upbeat attitudes. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. My steak was cooked toperfection very tender/juicy! We highly recommend!! Read more

The Mod Olive is a unique and themed restaurant reminiscent of the 50s, complete with menu items like ambrosia salad and... meatloaf Wellington. I dream of Jeanie played on the bar tv and the decor was cute and colorful. The staff was very nice andwelcoming and the food was fantastic. We got the Mac and cheese sandwich with both the Nashville chicken and bacon option aswell as the thanksgiving sandwich. Both sandwiches were fantastic! Warm , flavorful, creative. The waffle fries were the bestI?ve had in a while from anywhere. We went late in the evening so the dessert case was limited but we?d love to come back andtry that as well! Read more

The place is tidy. Servers all very friendly and welcoming. We were constantly checked on while we were there. They have good... cocktails. I hate sweet drinks and their cocktails are sweetened perfectly. My husband and I both ordered sandwiches fordinner. I think it took about an hour to get our food. We did get our drinks right after we sat down. It was a long wait forfood. The restaurant was about half full. Not sure why it took that long. Food was pretty good in flavor. Very generousportion size. You will be fed well here for sure. A little bit on the greasy side. Too oily the bread was soggy. Too much greasefor me. Personal preference. We will likely be back to try other items on the menu. Read more

The prime rib was not seasoned well and very fatty; however, the baked potato was decent. The Caesar salad was unique; the... lettuce was very crisp. The service was so-so, my waitress didn't check on me throughout the meal, she immediately gave me mycheck without asking if I wanted dessert or another glass of wine; this really made me feel rushed. Our first experience with the Mod Olive was enjoyable. The 1950?s atmosphere is unique. The Reuben sandwich was large enough to... share. The menu has very interesting ingredient combinations. The desserts are enormous, we took a slice of death by chocolatecake home for later. The wait staff was friendly. They are conveniently located in downtown Suffolk with parking on the streetand behind the building. Read more

Was on a day trip with my boyfriend and we stopped off in Suffolk. This is now one of my favorite places in the 757 area to eat.... I have never had meatloaf so good. (I want the owners recipe.) I ordered the meatloaf wellington and my boyfriend had the pulledpork shepherds pie. It is well worth the wait and you will get your money's worth. The retro decor put it over the top for me.To browse thru the old Montgomery Wards catalogs put me back in my childhood wish list for Christmas. If you are ever inSuffolk, you have to stop by. And a special shout out to Jillian, I loved her customer service and she was so polite andattentive. Read more

Had dinner here on a Friday, loved it so much that I took the entire family back for brunch on Sunday! You step into this spot... and you're taken back to a 1960s vibe. Even the TVs only play shows from that era. They even have an old school cigarettevending machine (I didn't check but I'm sure it's not an operating one). Just to talk about a few fav menu items ... The beercheese fondue is a great way to start dinner. It came with pretzel sticks, mini boiled potatoes, apples, carrots. The potatoeswere AMAZING with the fondue! And let's not forget their cocktails are only $5, how is that possible?! Inexpensive AND theywere good ... We got the old fashioned and the margarita. All their foods are served in generous portions. We all broughtabout half of our meals home for leftovers. Read more
