Reviews for Guilfoil's Irish Pub in Syracuse, NY

I?m writing this responding to a poor review. First of all, this is a neighborhood bar. Some might call it a dive bar, and if... you?re the kind of person who understands how neighborhood bars work, then you know that you want certain things from thatbar. Guilfoil?s is a gem. You walk in and find a spot. You wait your turn at the bar, and maybe that takes a few minutes. Youpay cash because that saves money. The beer is cold and cheap, the whiskey pours are generous and cheap, the food is tasty andcheap. The jukebox plays the widest variety of music and nobody complains when you play your favorite song. There are sports onthe TVs, and maybe a dog at your feet looking for a treat. This is exactly what an Irish pub is like. If you?ve traveled, eitherin the US or Ireland, you know that the Irish pub is a refuge, but not for the persnickety. It?s on its own time, and in its ownplace. You adjust to the Irish pub because you know that?s how it should be. I go to Guilfoil?s because they are happy toprovide that brief respite from the rat race. It?s a slower pace, but that?s what I want when I?m there. People are friendlywhen you talk genuinely with them and who could ever want more from a pub? Read more

We visited about 2pm to good reviews. We were greeted after being there for almost 10 minutes and taking a random seat. The... bartender lady was nice after she noticed us. We came just for the food not the bar. We got some wings and I got a burger. Theburger was nothing good and it was dry and a bit tasteless, as was the rest of the food, neither me or my wife finished. Then wewere told after we ate they don't take any cards, which we do not carry cash very often, we had to use the atm in the corner andpay a fee, which sucked. We wish we had known beforehand. Would not come back. Read more

If you enjoy chicken wings this place is definitely worth a shot. I'm happy to recommend the food here. It's a small welcoming... place and once you've been it's easy to see why it's been open for generations. Read more
