There is so much history here that at times the stories seem fictitious. But this is a tavern which competes for the title of... oldest in the nation, and it can only be assumed that a lot of history happened here. We met the owner who regaled us with talesof George Washington, Benedict Arnold, Alexander Hamilton, and of course Major John Andre, the most famous spy of the Revolutionwho spent his final days here prior to his execution. I bought a few rounds of the Tavernkeepers '76 Porter, made from the samerecipe given to George Washington during his stays. The food was rather expensive ($25.00 for a burger and fries), but otherwiseit was an enjoyable visit to this historical tavern. Read more

Very cool place with a great history. Small menu and a bit pricey but the food was very good. We ordered the Fish and chips and... the Grilled Flatbread...both worth it. The town also has lots of history and worth exploring if you have time. Service was greatand friendly! Read more

We absolutely Love The Old '76 House! The fact that it's a Historical Landmark is what originally piqued our interest. Once... inside, the old beams in the ceiling and the decor made us even happier. The ambience of the fireplaces are amazing, especiallyon those cold wintry days when we've wandered in to enjoy a fantastic bowl of French Onion Soup. The food is always hot &delicious and you can tell it's homemade not frozen and microwaved. They have Colonial recipes they use and it just keeps youtied in to the Old World style. The Pot Roast, Shrimp Scampi and Chicken Cordon Bleu (my picture) are among our top favoritedishes. For dessert we love the Crème Brûlée, The Apple Cobbler & The Bread Pudding. (À la mode is a Must!!) The staff isalways very Friendly and accommodating, and we Love Robb the Owner. What a Great, Personable Host he's been, always sharingdetails and facts about his Beautiful Restaurant. I have suggested this Restaurant to all of my Friends & Family, and we driveabout an hour and a half just to enjoy ourselves (and a great meal) year round. There's plenty of parking and lots of great food& drinks. Bring your appetite, your Family & Friends and your Camera to capture some new great memories! Read more

I met a friend coming from further north who drove over an hour to get to this place and it was pretty unimpressive. We thought... my son would like it because he's a big history buff. It more like any other local tavern. The food was decent the server wasvery nice but the food took a long time and she just wasn't a good waitress. It's definitely not somewhere I would go back orrecommend anybody driving more than 10 minutes to go to. Read more

Everything from the decor to the service to the drinks and the food is excellent. Warm inviting atmosphere with fireplaces and... after 7pm live music. This is a must see. The oldest tavern in the country. 5 of 5 forks to this restaurant. Read more
