Y'all this food is FABULOUS!!!! The brisket was so juicy and the sauce is just the right amount of sweet and spice. The mac and... cheese tasted so fresh and homemade! The collards tasted just like my momma made them!! Hands down the best food I have had inrestaurant in a hot minute!!! The staff was extra nice as well, such a welcomed environment as well!! This whole restaurant isjust a vibe in itself. Great BBQ place. Love the vibe when you enter the store. Very clean. Very roomy. Friendly welcome. The owner came out and... talked to us and gave us a little history on his restaurant. Awesome atmosphere. Great music in the background. Then we ate...Ihad the best half rack of ribs. Tender, falling off the bone rib meat with a great flavorful sauce. I had sweet cornbreadcasserole (awesome) and green beans as my sides with an unsweetened tea. Chief tried the rib tips and said they were tender andvery flavorful. We left Uncle Jr's very full of delicious BBQ. I'm glad I found this place because I will be back. If you're aBBQ fan, you must give Uncle Jr a try. You'll love it. Read more
Update at the bottom:Must read. This was only our third time in Terre Haute, IN. This time we came upon this jewel (Uncle Jr?s... Barbecue) sitting on the corner of 25th street. It was around lunch time; so I only wanted something light to eat. I order the?Scott Pete?s Sausage? (hot). Y?all, Uncle JR made me lick my fingers; that Sausage was SCRUMPTIOUS! This is a BBQ place youHAVE to go eat at. It has a well thought, décor, filled with motivational quotes and they give excellent customer service.Don?t let your taste buds miss out! Despite the lack of reviews I decided to try this place out today. I've been to Mama D's who recently moved locations to their... food truck which is right behind this place. I always get their fried chicken so good! And of course I said I'll be back to tryUncle Jrs and I did. Order took about 20mins as there were other guests there so I came at a good time. I'm guessing they had ahalf slab pretty much ready to go. Otherwise the reviews stated on average it takes at least 30mins or more, IDK. Let's startwith the half rack ribs I got. They were good and flavorful. Some parts were juicy and fall off the bone good other parts wereovercooked. Now the sides I was very disappointed in. Mac n cheese was bad. I'm all about homemade baked Mac and when I wentthrough the photos from the reviews, I was deceived bcuz this wasn't it hahaha. It must've been their corn in the photo, idk.It's a basic Velveeta like box Mac. Now some people love that kind of Mac, I do not. I don't care for it much. Their mac notflavorful in my opinion and no real cheese added to give it that flavor. It's just the liquid cheese. Honestly Chik Fil A's macis better if that tells you anything. Hell, I'd rather eat Arby's mac. And theirs is also the liquid like cheese but it's good.Collard greens was also very disappointing. It was over cooked, mushy but flavorful to say the least. It would've been perfecthad they not overcooked it. Beans, taste like Bushes baked beans which is good in my opinion but with that being said, it seemedthey didn't put any extra efforts to make it their own, like green bell peppers and onions. Just straight from the can, heatedup and on your plate if you ask me. So that's why I'm giving 3 stars. The ribs were really good but sadly the side dishes REALLYtook away from the meal itself. Stopped by for supper and was not disappointed! The food, service and the atmosphere were amazing! We had the tips, pulled pork,... baked beans, collards, mac-n-cheese, corn pudding and banana pudding for dessert. Everything was delicious ???? Definitely willbe repeat customers!!! Read more
My boyfriend wanted to try this place for his birthday today and Holy sweet southern baby Jesus...this place is top notch. It's... pricey yes BUT you get what you pay for and it's some of the best food I have ever eaten. I'm from the south and I've had a hardtime finding GOOD southern food here in the Midwest. This went from good to outstanding. My boyfriend got the ribs...tender,sauce is tasty and there's SO much meat. Cooked perfectly with crispy outsides and tender meat to the bone. I got the brisket,good lord. This would be my last meal on earth if I had a choice. This is some of the best brisket I've ever had. The coleslawis fresh, collards are SOOOOOOO flavorful and cooked to perfection and the Mac n cheese is that mama homemade family reuniontype. I'm so impressed, literally going to make this a regular date spot. The woman at the counter had superb customer serviceand was so friendly. Will eat here again, must try. I've been meaning to check this place out since it opened, and I wished I had gone sooner! The food is absolutely amazing!! ... It's about time Terre Haute finally had a real BBQ joint! We haven't had good BBQ in this area since the days of Shoe's andClowney's. All the meats were smoked just right, the sauce was nice and tangy. All of our meats were perfect, but a good BBQjoint isn't worth it if the sides don't bring the show as well! The corn pudding was heaven in a cup (yeah the sides are allserved in cups) mac n cheese got my son's approval and the slaw. Damn I haven't had good slaw like that since I lived inGeorgia is all I'm sayin. Besides amazing food, the staff and owners were wonderful and friendly and practically bent overbackwards to make sure our dinner and experience was worth it! I have to admit this place is hands down one of the best BBQ restaurants in TH. The food was great,reasonably priced,and most... importantly the service was above and beyond what anyone can expect. The brisket,and chops were smoked/cooked to perfection. I'mnormally not a fan of pork chops on a bone but the way they cooked them made me want more and not care. The corn pudding washands down to die for,only thing I'm disappointed about was I only got one bite of the pudding and the wife/kids ate the restneedless to say I'll have to order extra next time I take out. Definitely 10 out of 10 and once again the service was above andbeyond. I'll be looking forward to eating out here again. Read more
