Our family went to Hickory River last Tuesday. Being a fan of barbecue i was excited to try a new place. We got our orders and... sat down. Two items on our order had to be made to order.(chicken strips and French fries). After 10 minutes of waiting I wentto the counter to see on the progress of our order and a young lady said that it takes about 10 minutes to cook. Then she wentto a guy behind the counter and he promptly pulled our chicken and fries from the freezer and started cooking them. The girlwalked back by me and avoided eye contact while not giving me an update on the status. When we finally received our missingitems we found that both the chicken and fries were burnt. Our other food had already been eaten and we were actually getting upto leave when it arrived. The pork and brisket were very good, and the kitchen staff were working hard. However, the girl Idealt with was impersonable and unprofessional. I'll give it one more try, but will only order what is already prepared. Read more
House hunting trip from South Carolina...Stopped here for dinner and glad we did! Pulled pork sliders and sauce were spot on... amazing! Sides of Mac n cheese, very good. Service was very friendly, checked on us regularly. We will be regulars once we moveback! Read more
Anyone giving this place a 5 star review has absolutely no idea what great or even good BBQ is. but i guess you can't expect the... folks from Ohio to know what good food is anyway. The fries were the best thing they put put here. The pork was dry, and bland.the turkey looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. What a shame. Read more
Wasn't really sure about this place as it's set up is like fast food. Glad we stayed because it was DELISH! We both had the... pick two. Pulled pork and brisket. Honey BBQ. Mac n cheese was great, fries - good, Cole slaw- outstanding! Not a creamy slaw, more on the vinegar. Side of the day, mouth watering scallop potatoes! All aces! Great service too! Will be back. The pulled pork and smoked turkey were both smoked to perfection and juicy! The sweet cornbread, macaroni n cheese and coleslaw... were just as delicious. I got the mix sauce which was part heat and mild, which had exceptional flavor with a perfect mix ofthe two. I would highly recommend stopping in if you like BBQ and just great food! Their sides are above average. The mac n cheese is very saucy and the beans have an intense flavor. The pulled pork slider at... one dollar was the star of the show. It was juicy, tasty and paired even better with the honey BBQ sauce. The ribs. I ordered3 single ribs at 2 bucks a piece. I got the sauce (honey bbq) on the side. Pro-tip, don't do that. The ribs I got were bothdry and chewy. So, maybe when the ribs are served sauced it is better? The brisket. Dry. So, so dry. Way below average inflavor. Most of mine ended up in the trash. Oh my word, this place is amazing!! We sat down for lunch and both had chopped brisket sandwiches with different sides. But that... sandwich! Smoked and tender! This is the kind of place that, when you leave completely full, the food STILL smells good! (Andthe bathroom was clean) Read more
This is a semi-fast food style BBQ place. It is better to sit down and eat here unless you really plan to take it home. I... wouldn't try to eat it in the car. The food here is outstanding! Although it may be similar to other places, it is superior tothe other places. They have unique recipes with wonderful flavor. The staff is always exceptionally friendly and helpful. Theway they serve the food and the tables are similar to BBQ Smoke houses in West Texas. I could do without the country music, butit lends to the atmosphere, and it's not too loud.
